View Full Version : Promotion during training

I've searched the entire language forum and have googled to no avail. I've also asked my recruiter and others but I get different answers from everyone.

I'm shipping to Army basic next week and have a question. My MOS is 35P so I'll be going to DLI immediately after basic and while there I'll hit both my 18 and 24 months TIG, which will make me eligible for promotion to SPC.

My question is whether it's possible to be promoted while in training. I'll have around 28 months TIS and TIG before I make it back to my unit fully qualified, and if it's possible I'd like to be getting E4 pay before then.

Unless things changed (I'm kind of old) you will recieve promotions at DLI and AIT. Kids show up as PVTs and leave as PFCs all the time. SPC will not be any different.

The only challenge is if you need a waiver - many people got promotions with waiver for TIS or TIG but many didn't. Once you get there (and you are doing well in class) look for opportunities to go to the board, get student leadership positions, etc. Don't start spending that fat E4 pay already...

Yes, you'll get promoted. It should be automatic, and if you don't then bring the issue up to your TAC.

What's the fastest way to make E4 in DLI? Come there as an E6. Ah, Monterey.
