I need to get a concealable holster with active retention. Not by choice. Any suggestions? I'd rather not go the Blackhawk route. Thanks gents.

What gun dude? I have an IWB leather concealed from Mitch Rosen for a Glock 22, very nice piece. I'll let you have it/use it if you want, let me know.

Duh, I should have said. Glock 19 and 26. Is that a model with a thumb snap or something? I've got holsters, I just need one that has some kind of retention.

Everything I have is for a G22 and G27, I think the frame size is similar enough. I'll go dig that stuff out and email you tomorrow with what I got. Does it need to be an IWB?

I can't ever remember seeing a IWB with a thumb snap, seems counter productive to have a concealed carry under the shirt with a snap. Let me look dude.

Is leather ok? Can it be a snug outside WB with thumb snap?

Check out this guy, he is up in Manchester, will make custom pieces but they are expensive. I'll get with you tomorrow with what I have ok.

Massgrunt, I carry concealed under a cover garment every single day....with an OWB.
If that would work for you, it should make your search infinitely easier.
Just a thought.

Not necessarily, I carry a G 36, not much thinner than your G 19 / G 26 in a comp tac paddle holster. I would look at the Galco pancakes, they hold the gun flat to your hip and many come with thumb snaps. they disappear under a sport coat, vest etc.

If your clothing choices are limited to shirts, then IWB may be the way to go, although the retention may have to be a custom job. Its almost like an oxymoron.

You may also want to consider an appendix carry.

Thanks gents, it looks like it's going to have to be OWB by default. Will be worn with a blazer.

I carry appendix carry pretty frequently, but for work it's mandatory to use some kind of retention, plus appendix probably wouldn't work with the wardrobe anyway. I'll check out the links, thanks for the steer.

Safariland gives you a couple choices OWB.

The 6378 is a thumb lever retention type...

The 6378 also options with a belt mount (with some tilt) so is not just paddle style.

Unless you plan on wearing it beneath a shirt as well as the coat, IWB is probably overkill. Most coats will extend low enough to conceal a mid-sized automatic very well.

Good quality leather will be much more kind to your coats than a synthetic. Other than some small local shops, Galco is very tough to beat for fit and function.

One suggestion... have a tailor sew some reinforcement into the liner of your coats where it will ride on your holstered weapon. It will reduce the printing a little and extend the life of your probably very expensive blazer / sport coat.

Hey, it's from TJ Maxx!!!!

Thanks guys, you've given me some good options and convinced me IWB isn't going to happen.

I've used a Bianchi #3 with good results.
Dunno if they are still made, but it might be worth a try?

Best of luck.

Go with the crossbreed holsters.

Retention on an IWB holster should be minimal. Don't dick around with snaps, bungee cords etc. You'll fuck it up in an emergency.

I don't want any kid of active retention, but it's mandatory.

I've used the 747 for a while. Policy is that weps will be concealed at all times, and this one is real comfortable once it is broken in and molds to your hip, and lies real flat under a suit coat or even a slightly baggy short sleeved button-down shirt. It is the one I've worn for about 6 years now, even on the odd low-vis PSD type of work. I do wear it with a dress belt specifically designed to carry a weapon, by the way, which is just as important for concealing the weapon. Thin (unreinforced) "civilian" belts will allow the weapon to cant out from your hip and the weapon will print real bad that way. Just my .02, hope it helps. It can be a PITA to find the right holster for your body type... it took me about a good year out of the academy to find "the one".

Good luck.

I am probably going to take the easy way out and just get a Serpa. I really don't like the thumb snaps I'm looking at online. They look really unwieldy and easy to fuck up, miss, etc. It seems like compromise is unavoidable here. Thanks for all your advice gents.
