View Full Version : Marine Check?

Hello All,
Don't know if there is a way to check out a Marine, but here goes. Name is Kenneth "Kenny" Ardagna, claims to have been in the 1st gulf War, Bosnia and South America as a sniper, he is approx 44 years old. Lots of stories, seems pretty Tom Clancy. Discharged for striking a superior. Seems pretty different then the guys I have trained with. Reason I am asking is the dude is going to marry my mom, asked me to pick out a 30-30 for him (he identified the first as .22 and then a .306 as as the reapeter which I said umm nah). The time lines don't seem to mesh for me since I am a civie, but the riflemanship doesn't mesh at all. No one in my family who has served seems to think he is the real deal, just want to make sure before I shoot my mouth off.
Thanks,
Jason

Of course he was a sniper:rolleyes:
One simple way to do it is ask what unit he was in. Then, google that unit, because their deployment history is pretty easy to find. South America? Sounds like a blast.
And, when he tells you it's all classified, just ask what his MOS was. He should be able to give you a number, not "sniper".
Smells like old fish to me...
Oh yeah, and the "striking a superior" is a classic line, your boy was so bad ass the Corps couldn't handle him anymore...:p
Oh yeah, and the "striking a superior" is a classic line, your boy was so bad ass the Corps couldn't handle him anymore....Another thing, if he was such a cool-guy and assigned to such a badassed, cool-guy unit -- doesn't that imply that the others in the unit were badasses, too? So when he "struck a superior", what stopped the superior from opening up an immediate can of whupass? Those in charge are even more badassed than the ones they lead, no? I watch movies, I know how it works.
What a maroon....

Finding out if he was a Scout/Sniper is easier than just finding out if he was a Marine and would serve to prove/disprove both claims. Ask him:
-What unit
-What school(Quantico, Stone Bay, Pendleton, Hawaii)
-What MOS(Sniper was 8541 then)
-Class #
-If he has a "HOG's Tooth"
He should be able to answer most, if not all of these questions(I have run
across a few who don't remember their class # as it is not as much of a
vetting question as it is for Ranger grads).
Instead of asking "What unit were you in?" Ask "Who were you with?" If he says "what do you mean who was I with?" Poser.

Don't waste your time. He's lying. This phrase is code for "I'm lying about my service".

Tell your mom to proceed with caution.

Sounds like he just borrowed the script from "Sniper" starring Tom Berenger. Show your Mom this thread and let her decide.

Holy shit Batman. A poser claiming Gulf War service. Most of them tend to aim higher than that.

Is there an opinion that the Gulf War was somehow a lesser War? Is that why you say that?

The ground war was only 100 hours and the entire build up to end of hostilities was short and seems to be forgotten by many.
Most posers seem to claim Vietnam service, SEALS, Recon, Special Forces of some sort.
This is the first time I have heard a false claim of being a Gulf War Vet.
Obviously no offense intended to Gulf War Vets.

Maybe this poser thinks there are better odds at getting away with his false claims if he claims multiple "small" wars (Desert Storm, Bosnia) in which fewer people walking the Earth had participated, than one of the larger scale(time-wise) conflicts that lasted/are lasting years, with many more people having been involved. Then again, I am probably giving this dude too much credit, as it is pretty stupid to claim false service in the first place.

Just to clarify, when I say fewer vs. more participants in the respective wars, I mean fewer(DS, Bosnia) or more(Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan) people that he runs the risk of running into one day, spouting his BS, then getting called out on it.

At least he didn't claim Grenada. That would have been a damn small community!

He very well could have been in the Gulf War, Bosnia (Joint Endeavor), and South America (UNITAS) at 44. But, there is a guy that maintains a database of current and former scout snipers. Let me check with him and I'll get back with you.
NOPE. His name is not listed.

No worries, brother. If they could have asked on the latest Census, over half of the US population would have claimed it. But the Corps gives nothing away. It makes people earn it.

I wish I had a dollar every time someone would ask me that. LOL!
