I can't help you with Maui because I didn't go there, but Pearl Harbor is definitely a must-see.

If you have time I suggest Iolani Palace and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

A good resource that I've used before is WikiTravel. Here (http://wikitravel.org/en/Oahu) is the article on Oahu and here (http://wikitravel.org/en/Maui) is the other on Maui. It's all user edited, so make sure you get confirmation on anything you're interested in that you get from there.

Honolulu;

Sites - Climb Diamondhead if you have time.

If you're not jet-lagged - check out Dukes Barefoot Bar on the strip or Moose Mcgillicuddy's

I don't know Maui that well..... but if you want to know about Oahu, let me know.

As for Pearl Harbor, you need to get there EARLY or you will be shit out of luck. They issue free tickets on the first come/first serve basis......and start off @ 0700hours. If you get there around 9AM, you will usually get a 1PM show-time.....

Let me know when you get out here.....I am a member of the Elks Lodge in Waikiki and our lodge is at the base of Diamond Head.....right on the beach. Cheap drinks and an amazing sunset at night......

Diamond Head is a must-do.

The Hula Pie is also worth a stop at Dukes

Cant say much about Maui except that it is gorgeous, if I was going one thing I would have to try is the bike ride down Haleakala. Dont know if you can still go from the summit to the sea but I would look into it. They used to have mountain bikes with over sized brakes and you coasted all the way down.

Also, who are you going with?

There's things that you'd enjoy with a signifigant other that would become unmanageable with a car full of youngsters or would be kinda gay if you're heading over with a buddy.

IME, (and this was 10 years ago) Duke's is/was a meat market. Great if you wanted to pick up a tourist, but otherwise not a great place.

I would recommend if you're going to the NS to stop by Matsumotos on the way back to town. Best shaved ice on Oahu IMO.

Also, prepare yourself for the rudeness of the tourists at the USS Arizona Memorial. I only went twice the whole time we lived there. First time we went, the tourists drove me crazy. Rude, loud, more worried about snapping group photos than being respectful. I got to the point I was ready to start throwing people over the rail when my wife dragged me out of there. We went a second time (I thought maybe the first was a fluke...) and it was the same way.

Dukes here in Huntington Beach is great...Oahu not so much. Go over Dukes and hit Hula Grill. Best island style and atmosphere. Beer, local tunes live. It is on top of Dukes so you can watch the faggotry not be part of it or watch the sunset. Arizona Memorial is worth every bit of BS. I lived on Ford and found that I get my ticket, go home for the 2 hour wait, then go back and get right on. There are douches all over Oahu. I always stayed on the westside and enjoyed Yokohama Beach, Pokai Bay and the resonable seclusion. If your a tourist, stand by to be treated like one. I prefered kamai'ana. Aloha Stadium has a killer swap meet on Sat. and Sun. All the stuff from downtown at a fraction of the price.

Maui is a party island. The night life in Lahina rivals LA. Good food but expensive. I suggest getting to know the place you are staying and eat there until you find the good cheap eats around. The renatl car is key but watch the decsent down Haleakala if you do it. The brakes get hotter than hell. DO NOT do the gayass bike ride! It is retarded. Very touristy so there ya go. If ya can afford a helo tour do it. AWESOME scenery.

Make it no worries, don't plan anything and find ALOHA! Cheehoo.

+1 on the tourists at Dukes and the Memorial.
Karlm, you can check out Shorebirds too if you want a nice place on the beach to eat and listen to people make fools of themselves on the Karaoke machine.

Leaving on the 14th Will be going with wife, daughter and one of her friends, so may be some what limited in the night life. We are staying at resort on kaanapali beach when we are on Maui. Will have a rental car on Maui but not Oahu.

In Kaanapali you're just a few minutes drive north (Rt. 30) of a town called Lahina.

Lahina was an old whaling village that's become a sort to touristy "main street" kind of town with lots of bars, restaurants, and fine art gallaries. It's a good place to spend the day doing the tourist thing or to hit at night for some pretty good restaurants.

In Lahina there's a kind of Luau place called the Feast at Lele that you've got to get to if you can swing it: http://www.feastatlele.com/. It's a little pricey, but the food was better than food I had in other more expensive/bigger name Lahina restaurants.

Maybe a half hour further down Rt. 30 you'll come to a town called Maalaea which has a pretty nice aquarium (Maui Ocean Center - not great, but nice, clean, neat, and some interesting exhibits).

You can also catch snorkeling excursions (maybe SCUBA too, but I don't do it) out of Maalaea to the Molokini crater out in the bay. Lots of turtles, lots of Black Tip Shark, lots of fish.

We also drove the "Road to Hana" and it was actually a great time. Some of the best scenery I've ever taken in anwhere in the world (my world travel being minimal compared to many SOCNETers). Lots of interesting stuff to stop and do along the way if you need to hop out of the car. There really weren't any "attractions" but we did jump out to pick papayas off the trees, swim in the pool at the base of a waterfall, eat lunch in a pretty cool little cove at the bottom of the cliffs, saw a guy die of a heart attack on the "black sand beach" (nothing we could do), and check out a few taro plantations.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped at a damn good place called Mama's Fish House Restaurant. We were a little under dressed for it after twelve hours in the car so if you do like we did and hit it on the way back to the hotel you might be more comfortable of you brought some clean shorts and a polo.

I also want to say that the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua has a nice little casino, but I may be confusing it with the Ritz in Purto Rico.

I've only heard good things about Haleakala National Park ("Mountain bike down a volcano!!!!) but didn't get the chance to do it myself because the wife doesn't ride and we were doing the honeymoon thing.

I didn't get mugged. But if I had to do Hawaii over again, I wouldn't have spent so much time (and money) there.

I didn't have an opportunity to get over to the Arizona or Missouri, but I did have time to browse through the small Pearl Harbor memorial on base (Right by the McDonald's).

Maui - Haleakala crater - do the 'run to the sun' get there at sunrise to watch the sun rise from the crater... they also have mountain bike treks down the mountain...

Dinner - if romantic - Swan Court at the Maui Hyatt - Caution $$$ but worth it if you like waterfalls, sunsets, and black necked swans swimming in the pool while you eat.

One thing I forgot to suggest is Hanauma Bay on Oahu. Amazing place with amazing snorkeling.

+1 on the Aloha Stadium swap meet.

Maui for kids is tough but to your solution hit Hanama Bay (yes there is one in Maui too) for snorkeling. Get there early because tourists muck it up by kicking to bottom more than water. Also drive around north side and see all the rock stackings. Kinda a tradition with the locals but the kids would have a hoot doing their own. AGAIN screw the stupid bike ride down Haleakala. Drive up, hopefully no one gets altitude sickness and enjoy the crater. I don't know how old your kids are but really the beach anywhere will entertain them better than a car window. Another cool sight is seven pools. This palce is a hike of seven pools each with a waterfall that dumps into the ocean. Beautiful as it can be. Wear good footwear and swim in each pool.

Last but not least, your gunna need this: http://hawaiimilitaryguide.com/

At the bottom of the pic you can open the guide to all the islands.

Hard copies all over any base. Good info. The the unbeaten is the best adventure. Aloha
