I am looking for some recommendations for a pair of knee pads. I have the Blackhawk hard shell but they don't work well for me. I have smaller legs than most and the velcro closure systems don't work well unless I make some modifications.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Go down to the skateboard shop and try on pads until you find a set you like. The skateboarder pads are generally more comfy and practical than the tactical models, and have more secure means of attachment. Stop at the hardware store on the way home, buy some flat black paint to render them "tactical," and yer set...

Ask the full time dudes where you work. They should have a complete spool up for ya.

Protec makes good pads, or at least they did when I used them for CSAR ops. If I recall, seems most of the SEALs used the Protec helmets as well. Durable and lightweight. The kneepads had elastic "step into" loops as well as velcro loops. The unit was articulated (moves with the joint), and the pads were hard teflon. The one drawback of the pads themselves was how slick they were on the helo floor. Applying skateboard tape to the pad fixed that issue.

They don't wear knee pads. Just the bony knee medic.

Arcteryx knee pads work great for me, never fall down, a bit pricey though.
