I was lookin at Rebreathers and i wanted to get some info on the LAR V. I was just curious as to exactly how long a SEAL could stay under water with one of those cause i was looking at the Dolphin and Atlantis 1 by Draeger and they said the maxi would be 125 mins. Thanks for any replys.

I'm not sure but most of what I hear is about 4 hours. But you also must consider what your depth is...How hard your working etc...Your gonna consume alot more air at 30 feet then ya will at 15 feet..while its not much of a difference it can mean a long time and then put in the stress of combat etc...it can dwindle down...but its safe to assume 4 hours of O2 in the Draeger.
PS How do ya buddy breath with those? Is it piggy back or chest to chest or what?

Duration is dependend on workload underwater and the temperature in the scrubber (this is a canister that filters the CO2 out of the breathing gas, it works with sodalime or LiHO ). Depth has a very limited influence, only with ascending you might loose some gass because of the expension. Since it is a closed system no further gas is lost and only the Oygene is consumed. The Americans use a 1.5 liter bottle 200 bar wich gives 300 liters of O2 which can last you form 150 to 300 minutes (these are rough estimates, as I said before it depends on your workload). The scrubber duration is however usually the limiting factor, but count on between 1.5 en 3 hours of use.
The price new is about $8000, but second hand they can be bought for about 1500 dollars.
For Master Chief: Buddy breathing is not done with this equipment because of the high risk/complications involved. (I don't understand your scrubber remark either)
Disclaimer: These machines are very dangerous if used by untrained people, they operate differently than normal scuba/compressed air equipment. If you're interested I can give you some adresses where you can be trained.

To masterCheif USN
BullSH@t- There is no oxygen scrubber on a LAR V. There is CO2 scrubber, either sodasorb or sofnolime, which is a granular lime substance that is packed into the scrubber cannister. Its purpose is to scrubb exhaled Co2 from the oxygen before it is rebreated. You can buddy breath on a LarV but it is dangerous beacause of the possibility of the falling partial pressure of O2 can cause hypoxia.
