In 1968 Germany is the front line of the bitter Cold War between East and West. In the frozen Harz Mountains the temperature has plunged to its midwinter depths when British soldiers on an intelligence gathering mission come across two East German defectors. As a raging blizzard closes in they find themselves entangled in a deadly web of intrigue and treachery. Soon they are hurtling headlong on a path to confrontation with the forces of the Warsaw Pact. Is this the time and the place when the Cold War will suddenly heat up to melting point?

J W Coleman worked with the British and American military forces in Europe and the Middle East for several years. He moved to Norfolk from London seven years ago after a further career with Reuters News Agency. He lives with his wife near Aylsham. John has previously had a short story published this year called ‘The Island of Music’, a mystery set on the Chinese island of Gulangyu.
