I watched a show the other night that was honoring veterans. They were giving out awards to folks who had helped veterans causes in a variety of ways. It was a good how until former SECDEF Cohen accepted an award for Dan Rather. Cohen said that Rather was a close friend of his and that as a former Marine, Rather was still serving in the trenches covering our nation's wars.

Dan Rather was NEVER a Marine. He was shitcanned from boot camp after being recycled for being a shitbird.

Over the years he and his "60 Minutes" buddies have taken many a cheap shot at the U.S.military. Us older folks remember Morley Safer's infamous newscast showing Marines burning down a village in Vietnam. Safer completely distorted the facts and literally said the Marines were burning the huts of non-combatants. There was a furor back in the states and even though the truth came out, the damage had been done. He admitted taking "journalistic license" which means he got caught lying. Those of you in the military must remember this cardinal rule: NEVER TRUST THE PRESS.....NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!

This link contains an accurate summary of Dan Rather's illustrious military career. S/F

Another example of someone who could not hack being a warrior who has made a living out of criticizing those who did. Dan Rather was shitcanned from Parris Island. Yet I have seen many references to him calling him a former Marine. Rather does nothing to correct this statement when he hears it. One has to graduate from boot camp to be a Marine, and Dan Rather was in no danger of that happening.

Rather has insulted, demeaned and vilified the military ever since he was cast from the ranks. He has always used his TV show as a bully pulpit from which he spews forth. He never fails to take a cheap shot at the military, and he never lets the lack of proof or substance prevent him from reporting an anti-military story. His reporting from Vietnam was so biased he should have been wearing an NVA uniform!

Like Jane Fonda's traitorous past, Rather's actions and those of most of his peers during the Vietnam war were extremely detrimental to the morale of the entire nation. They literally and knowingly misrepresented or concealed facts and in many cases reported fictional accounts of how the American soldiers in Nam were all dopers, murderers, rapists, how the VC and NVA were winning all of the battles, etc.

Their reporting was for the most part outright propaganda. They do not deserve the freedom and liberty they enjoy as a result of the actions and sacrfices of the real men they take such delight in ridiculing. Just thought I'd point out another scumbag to those too young to have seen his act in person. S/F

My fav Dan Rather quote was "The U.S. government invented AIDS through a CIA biowar program and spread it in Africa" 1987. Typical KGB propaganda plot.

Madmik - do you have a source for that? Are you sure Rather wasn't quoting someone like Louis Farrakhan?

Yeah, and he and his other media cohorts are big fans of LE, too.

Isn't it wonderful to be second guessed, put down by, and insulted by those who have no clue.

Dont EVEN get me going on the media! There's not enough bandwidth!

Just another case of some liberal piece of shit that couldn't hack it.

It makes me wonder how he got anywhere in life...Oh I know...he misconstrued information, made prejudicial remarks about the people that is defending his rights to make those remarks, and joined sides with a bunch of other liberal pieces of shit...Outf#ckingstanding.

Aqaba, there was a whole site about Dan Punk Rather at http://www.accuracyinmedia.org/ but apparently it is for either paid subscribers or they rewampred their site.
Or look at http://www.sonic.net/~doretk/ArchiveARCHIVE/Aids/3.%20AIDS%20vs.%20Uncle%20Sam.html (search for Mister Rather)

I posted this here before; My favorite Dan Rather irony is the fact that he sat out the Korean War in a National Guard unit (he did not join the Marines until the conflict ended) then had the balls to criticize Dan Quale and George W. Bush for evading service in the Vietnam War by serving in National Guard units.
