I've read/heard that there are some considerable differences between the Odd #'d SEAL Teams of the West Coast, and the Even #'d Teams of the East Coast. The Marcinko books seem to almost suggest a negative connotation to the West Coast teams. Any SEALs or other operators have any insight into this. Thanks.

There are some personality differences between the two coasts, just as there are between individual Teams on the same coast. Each Team is charged mostly with the same responsibilities and mission capabilities as any other, specific to their theater of operations in the world. For example, SEAL Team Two retains a better cross country skiing capability than SEAL Team Three, since Two works mostly in Europe and has a higher likelihood of going on a cold weather operation. That doesn't mean that ST 3 avoids ski training, or doesn't have anyone with cold weather experience, just that they spend most of their time training toward the most likely environments.
There is a bit of an East Coast-West Coast rivalry, but you'll find equally sharp operators on both coasts.

To Trident86,
Thanks for the reply, and if you could answer me one more thing: why was ST5 deployed to the Gulf for Desert Storm (I thought its AO was Korea and the Northern Pacific), rather than ST3 (which to my knowledge has its AO as SW Asia/Middle East)? I'd like to know (of course w/o wanting to violate OPSEC? Thanks
