They keep tabs on anyone trying to find information about them. A few guys asked the same thing a while back and after the initial post we never heard from them again. Thats all I know.

Canada and specops don't exactly go in the same sentence these days, just do a search and you'll know everything we know - except the super-secret-nuclear-ninja-underwater-knife-fighting unit based in Disturbance basement. oops! i've said to much, is that a knock at my door?......
(what can i say i'm happy exams are over)

My friend just got his hands on a couple of the JTF-2 fitness/nutrition program manuals. Anyone know who I should go to, to get one of these. I'm looking for a program to buildup for Phase 3 this June. I bought the book "Fighting Fit" a few years ago and it has a few training programs for people wanting to join the SAS, Paras, and RM. I was running 10k 3 times a week until school got to heavy. Haven't gone on a 10k run for a couple of months now. If I get up off the couch to get some fat pills I get out of breath now. Even though I like a challenge I don't think I should hit Phase 3 not being able to walk at a fast pace let alone run 10k.

Talk to your local Sports and Fitness coordinator at a base near you. They may only give them out to confirmed candidates, because they are very expensive brochures, but if you use the old jedi mind trick that you should've learnt on phase 2 it usually works.
I'll tell you something else about JTF that is unknown...it has to do with the...wait...

Garret-
I've got the fitness prep program. I'll shoot it over via email once I dig it up. I'm in the same boat, just looking for it will make me tired.

Once you become a Socnet Jedi you can do whatever you want. I think you need 300 posts then you can upload your own picture. Click on the user cp image at the top of the page and look around in there.

I've found some of the program. Go to my site at :
http://www.angelfire.com/co4/2section/
-you'll find it in the Ops & Training page. Sorry for the poor scans, I found it in my (rather neglected) gym bag.
and no cracks about the shitty web site please...

Can you explain? Shoot me an email with the details. I am SO out of the loop its not even funny.

Nothing secret or OPSEC about this. There're coming to a base near you on or about the end of Feb on a recruiting drive. Out here it's the 25th at Esquimalt. I'm going to see about a cat B slot.
Marauder
18 January 2002, 20:36
So you're looking into Class 'B' huh? Are those the drivers and armourers and the other support guys? Be pretty sweet if you get in, you could keep us slobbering masses in the know about non-OPSEC stuff.

is there a number to call to get the recruiting sched?
are they doing the cross canada thing again?

21 January 2002, 12:29
I'll see what else I can find out. I was under the assumption this is the last whistle stop on the line, being the western most base (well, maybe Comox, but I can't see them letting those wing wipers have real guns). Anyways the chances of me getting in are about on par with, well actually about the same as getting any decent training in the CF. Equally split at zero. Besides the unit's trying to get me into this new officer program: Take one old corporal, add a few weekends of QL2, stir, and presto-one new 2Lt. Man, that's gonna suck. I still might find a way out yet.

Hey nothing is impossible. Train hard and never quit.
There are a number of reservists in there now.
Oldest to go through was 45.
I think a problem they will have recruiting is they make it seem impossible to get in. So alot of people dont bother even trying.
garett
21 January 2002, 14:01
If I don't pass Phase 3 this summer I'd rather become a Cpl. again then go through the new officer training program.

21 January 2002, 14:12
If you think you cant make it. then you wont make it. You never know what you can do until you try out. Once your there just make the best of it and realize this is your only shot. (which isnt really true because i think you have 3 shots) correct me if iam wrong

Phase 3 should be no probs, just memorize your orders formats. I have a whole bunch of pro formas for that shit if you need anything. Take care of your knees and start getting in shape now. The better shape your in the easier it'll be on the body walking through those tank ruts, heh heh.
In fact shoot me an email and I'll send you laundry lists of stuff you can start memorizing now. If there are changes they'll only be minimal.
The more leading you do this winter/spring the easier the course will be as well. Remember you will be on course with other O's that have never really led a platoon, so you'll have an advantage. Especially if you can lead a raid, ambush, recce, advance to contact, hasty attack before then. If you cant, ask a squared away warrant to take you out with a section and go through EVERYTHING notionally. ie. Occuppy patrol base, leaders recce, etc. etc. The more you get put in the breach before you get to phase 3 the easier being in the breach will be there.
I was only in my unit 3 days before I was tasked with leading a raid for MTSC! Mind you I had prior experience.

Yeah, thanks for the motivation, but real life has it's limits. I'm married, run a business and got two kids in diapers. Just getting into shape for selection is a full time pursuit, never mind trying to fit it into the 1/2 hour of free time I (sometimes) find in a day.
Still gotta give it a shot though.....last I heard they aren't allowed to kill you.
I'd of thought all you young kilroys would be lining up for this chance. This is probably the best time to get in.

I'm thinking more along the line of a break, not a failure, although thats possible.
Marauder
21 January 2002, 23:19
Tony, I would be all over that shit but for three things.
1) I only have one year in. I'm still learning to be a decent piece of cannonfodder, let alone a Jedi Master. ;)
2) I'm not going full time with anyone (here, US, or Brits) until I have my degree, so that I can get a nice plush J.O.B. after my knees/back/neck/feet go south on me.
3) I would be sucking wind huge if I were to leave just for a course right now, let alone Jedi Selection. I'm lucky to hit the gym twice a week with the sched I have now. (30+ class hours/wk, then all the reading, paper research, homework and housecleaning and cooking and shit that goes with single student living.)
That's the only reservation I have about going officer; as insanely hard as it would be to get in as an NCM after I finish school (would have the three years in by then), I can't even begin to imagine the sort of competition that is involved with O slots, esp. Squadron OCs (just going with the SAS model here).

If any of you guys are in the Ottawa area, get to know a few Ottawa coppers...3 former jtf2 guys went to police college with me and are now on the job with Ottawa PS.
One of them told me that they used to cross-train often with the ETF (Toronto Police Emergency Task Force...tactical unit). The theory was that JTF trains and trains, but they don't get to experience the adrenaline dump that comes with actual combat as often as they should (or used to...lets hope their kickin' ass and takin' names in Afghanistan...). They'd ride-along with the ETF shooters and go to barricaded suspect and high-risk takedown calls, etc. With all the emotionally disturbed people we've got hanging around in T.O., they were kept pretty busy...
One of my Sergeants was former ETF...confirmed this cross-training...worked often with JTF assaulters...
Guy in my class at police college was trained as sniper/countersniper. Said he did lots of countersniper work in Bosnia...also x-trained alongside FBI HRT, Delta, GSG-9...stuff you probably already knew, or assumed.
...now that I think back, boy could that guy run...
Other little tidbits I learned...jtf trained some other Canadian police tactical units...helped set up a tac unit for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, etc...
Thought I'd share this...just in case you guys are interested.

Someone mentioned there's a few reserve troops working with JTF2. What functions would they perform? How would that work for training? Would they be temporarily reassigned full-time to the unit? Just curious.
UberCree
23 January 2002, 10:22
You would sign a three or four year contract upon being selected after phase 3 as an assaulter or mobility, whichever you tried out for.
If you guys have questions just call up the recruiter. His number is in the high speed brochure they made last year. Dont be fuckin scared of the guy, thats his job. He's there to convince you to try out...Unless your a shitbag! Then stay at home on your PC!!

I posted the Cooper's Test Scoresheet on our section's site
www.angelfire.com/co4/2section
The following is "recommended"
Cat A=75pts min
Cat B=65pts min
OK, lets see those scores. I'll post mine in about a month. I'm too embarrassed right now. Fuck, do I suck.
UberCree
24 January 2002, 10:13
Hey thats the old one, the new one goes up to 30 on the extented scale. So its easier to get 100 pts.
My score, last time I did it was 95, but I wasn't really training that hard back then, heh heh.
pete
24 January 2002, 10:33
I have the score sheet. On mine it has the five Catagories(run, pushups, situps, pullups, max bench) You can score a max of 30 points on each exercise. Allowing for a possible of 150 points. I dont think you should be happy with getting 100, that should not be a final goal, go for the max.
FNG
24 January 2002, 13:15
When I did my own test under the old scoring system, I got 80. The Cooper's test is just a tool to see if you even have what it takes to pass selection. I'm certain actual events are much tougher than what is required for the test.
Then there is the psychological tests... plenty of super-fit guys have been turned away because of those.
I was told that only one reservist has ever made it.

24 January 2002, 13:44
From what i've been hearing the average age of the JTF guys is 28. If that's at all accurate i got a good few years to get in shape for selection. All the same that could be bullshit, who knows.
pete
25 January 2002, 16:33
You know what. I dont think you should wait till your a certain age. You should set a goal to be ready by and then just do it. If your 22 and in super shape and you are mature and responsible, you have your priorities straight then i say, go for it.
UberCree

Look for CANFORGEN next week regarding selection.

29 January 2002, 15:14
So by now I bet most of the guys reading this have seen the pic of the JTF dudes with the prisoners. First thing that hit me was that even JTF is wearing green uniforms, couldn't really tell if they're CADPAT but they looked like it. What were they getting off, a Chinook?

29 January 2002, 16:25
Looks like a Marine CH-53 Sea Stallion. You can see it better in some of the pics on the web. I've only seen tiny thumbnails. Anybody got the original from AP?
Correction, picture in Toronto Star shows "USAF" on the tail of the bird. Perhaps MH-53 Pavelow?

The better friggin' reprint that pic tomorrow - I saw it when it was first run, but now it's going on the wall...
If NDHQ had any brains, that photo would be the new recruiting poster.

.50 cal on the back ramp? Heh heh, looks like the boys are working with the big D if you ask me.
Yup I definitely agree that should be a recruiting poster! Big in colour, that would rock.

Heres the full pic. Alright, correct me if I'm wrong, first guy has a helmet with a desert pattern cover strapped to his chest. On the front of the helmet is a black something. Its in the location where NVGs would be clipped on. He also has a shotgun.
Second guy has a desert pattern helmet on and something black is sticking out. NVGs?
Anyone see anything else that sticks out?
Enfield
30 January 2002, 20:47
Should I ask why we're analyzing the kit piece by piece of these guys?
But here goes...
Guy in front has a shotgun, with a helmet attached to front of vest that looks to to me to be painted a tan color with an attachment point on the front, the guy on the right is wearing the same type/color of helmet with NVG's attached to front, guy on left has helmet attached to rear of webbing.
The guy on the left appears to have a C7-type weapon (you can see the foresight and muzzle) wrapped in a tan-colored cloth.
They are most defintley not wearing any form of standard issue load bearing gear, and the guy in front has some very funky knee pads on.
They look suitably high speed. Some media is saying that the raid had multiple different foreign units on it. Is the lack of rucksack's or patrol pack's significant?
Now, too important things like the new Maxim swimsuit issue....

30 January 2002, 21:59
Alright Enfield you pass, but you missed the banana in guy #3's pants.
UberCree
31 January 2002, 09:41
I cant believe you guys didnt notice the weapon the third guy is carrying. At first I thought it was part of the helo, but upon further inspection I realized that the third man is in fact carrying the Browning .50 cal. He must have a number 2 a couple feet behind him carrying the bulk of the ammo. Yup, indeed he does, looks like an Aussie in Aus cammo. If you look closely you can see the single point attatchment sling attatched to the .50 (for CQB).
Damn these DUDES ARE HARD CORE!!!
