I've read that certain eye surguries are allowed once you are in the service.
I was just curious if Lasiks has been approved yet as one of the options for eye surgury. It seems that Lasiks is the most precise and also has the least risk.
Also, how hard is it to get the surgury approved by your command.

Check the links section at http://navymedicine.med.navy.mil// It may answer most of your questions.
The Navy approves of Lasiks and PRK. For Special Warfare and Diving, only PRK is approved. The official information can be obtained from BUMED.

Thanks for the help. If you don't mind I have one more question.
Is there a reason why Lasiks in not approved for diving?
Thanks - Jack Ryan

Thanks for the help.
I have one more question. Why is lasiks not approved for special warfare or diving.
Thanks - Jack Ryan
Don't know the official reasons, but my guess is that it's CYA. PRK has been in use since 1988 while LASIK has only been in use since 1994, so a lot more studies have been done on PRK. They don't allow laser surgery for aviators, so some of the reasons are probably the same.
