Hello all, I'm a relatively new member to this site, first time poster, although I lurk the forums everyday just reading them and find them very interesting. Well, last week I tried to join the Navy. Unfortunately, I was medically dq'd because of my eyesite not meeting the refraction minimums. The doctor though did recommend me for a waiver, so hopefully that will go through. Needless to day I was a little bummed out last week.

My goal was also to become a member of a SBU unit. The MEPS classifier said this was impossible as you have to have 20/200 or better. I had him put in a call to Chief Briscoe at Great Lakes, and that gentleman straightened everything out. He also gave us a bunch of source ratings for SWCC, explained everyting, etc, etc. SWCC is still not in the Navy recruiting manual as the classifier told me, as he just assumed it was the same as EOD. Because of my eyesite, I coudln't get the sealchallenge in my contract and switch to SWCC at boot, I have to let them know at boot on 1-3 to switch to SWCC. If you have good eyes though, get sealchallenge in your contract, and switch at 1-3 if SWCC interests you.

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share my experiences with everybody and it might answer some questions people may have had. I hope to someday still serve proudly with the SBUs, and I thank you for your time.
