I don't really think that there's any initiative to be exploited here. I'm not defending the action but people die in war and conflict and Daniel Pearl is no different then any other journalist thats gotten killed.

What has me pissed off is that he was kidnapped , held for ransom and when no ransom was forthcoming he was decapitated on video tape...There is plenty to exploit...and soon!

The Pearl kidnapping and murder is an atrocity, but reporters should know the risks they take. I sympathize with his family, but I'm sad for the families who lost a loved one who was just flying somewhere on a business trip or heading into their office jobs on the morning of September 11th. Going into a rough area asking all sorts of questions and flashing ID and money is just as stupid a thing to do in Karachi or Kabul as it is in Beruit, Los Angeles, Bangkok, Glasgow, or wherever. I'm sorry, but apart from the human aspect, a dead reporter is just going to be another body on the pile once this is all over.

Somehow, reporters convince themselves they're better than the rest of us because of their degrees and the job they do. I have becomed very dissolusioned with their "profession", as there is rarely any objectivity and often very little situational awareness. Basically they can say whatever the hell they want with very little fear of any form of sanction. I remember during 1994 when CNN broadcasting reports from Christiana Amanpur. Decisions were being made and public opinion was being formed based on the fact that she was regurgitating whatever propaganda the BIH spoon fed her. She fooled no one who was actually there on the ground.
