I'm looking to buy a lightweight pair of waterproof GoreTex pants to wear UNDER my issue uniform pants. I recently went on an ex where it was too warm to wear my issue GoreTex "snowpants" but I still want to keep my legs from getting soaking wet. Anyone know who sells such a product, and where I can buy a set? Thanks in advance.

I think I saw in US Cav or Brigade QM an SAS "silent" Gore-Tex suit that went under the uni, but I never tried them, nor have I heard anything about them. I have a feeling, though, that anything that stops incoming water, that close to the skin, will make you sweat if you are in a warm climate. At that point, the wet leg thing wouldn't matter.....

Thanks for the reply.

The type of environment I'm talking about here is one that's too warm to wear a bulky set of insulated GoreTex pants over my uniform, but also one that's cold and wet enough (mainly at night) to wear some sort of thin, waterproof inner pant lining. In addition to that, I want to be able to keep from getting wet in any wet weather (cold, cool and mild temps.) and not have to worry about the noise that rain pants make when they rub in the thigh.

If the US Army is issuing GoreTex inner pants, perhaps I could find them at a surplus store?

Cheers

BDM, The pants you are loking for are in fact called Stealth Suit pants. I'm just a Reservist up here in Canada but I have been wearing a pair in the field for the past ten years or so and they have been worth their weight in gold. They're very light weight and fairly baggy so if you wear them untucked at the bottom and with the fly open you don't notice you are even wearing them. I wear them all year round except on the hottest days and actually feel a bit uncomfortable when I don't have them on. Unlike an outer Gore tex layer they are silent while keeping the camofluage properties of you outer layer. They stop the wind, keep you insulating layer dry and in the summer keep mosquitos from biting your legs (great for OPs and ambushes). I ordered them from US Cavalry originally but then they stopped selling them. The company that makes them is called Adventuretech and you can find the Stealth Suit at this link:

Good luck.

I just emailed adventuretech and they no longer make the stealth suit, eventhough it's on their website... Peerless Garments in Canada makes another version, wait out on that, I'm already working on it
