I'm just trying to corner down the maker[s] of all the new load bearing kit....daysack, tacvest, bergen, accessory pouches. I was just on the [URL=http://www.specialtydefense.com] Specialty defense products site and I started drooling...if they only made that RACK in green....

In Canada the CTS load bearing stuff is designed by Pacific Safety Products(LBV), and Ostrom Packs(Ruck). For the most parts, since it hasn't been widely issued yet, we won't know how that stuff rates? The US stuff is interesting, but we in Canada will have to use what's issued to us, and that kit we can get away with using!
On some other forums, discussions about the new US kit(Specialty Defence) has been met with mixed opinions(you can't please everyone!)

Check this out from their page. Every section should carry one...

ROFLMFAO!
The most useful thing to have on a ruck march! Now if only they made that in either OD/Cadpat, ah well there's always spraypaint!

Talked to the owner of Ostrum, Bill Ostrom,
The rucksacks will not be introduced until 2004, although the daypacks should be out this year. He is as frusterated with the mil's speed as all of us. Individual soldiers CANNOT buy any of the kit from Ostrom, only their civy stuff.

Considering these rucks go for $800.00 per(Thanks TonyM) shouldn't DND just focus on Infantry/Engineers first.....oh wait that would make sense! On one of the other forums, an individual purchased an "OD" Ostrom pack, built to their personal specs.
If we did something like that, what are the odds we'd be allowed to wear it??

Go to Pacific Safety Products (http://www.pacsafety.com/), Armour Products, Non-ballistic accessories, there is an OD load bearing vest that looks like the new CADPAT one. I wonder how much that would cost and what are the chances we could wear it......

Back in Dec/Jan, the DND placed a tender for over 50,000 of those LBVs (have seen newspaper pix of some CDN troops in Kandahar wearing them!) so "hopefully" we'll see them within a year? Still don't like idea that the LBV only holds 4 mags though! Personally I'm more keen on getting my hands on that new Ostrom ruck, looks really comfy, but anything is better than the '82 ruck. However as UberCree stated in above post, it'll be a wait!
That pacsafety website also has the new frag vest that is currently being used; interesting design features, with F/R ceramic plates, side entry& can be removed from an injured soldier w/o moving them around!

No rucks still 2004???
I knew the rumour that Roto 11 was getting all of the CTS stuff was too good to be true....

I emailed Pacific Safety Products about the tacvest, and I was told that they will not be able to sell any of the vests to the general public until October of this year at the earliest. Even if they could sell it I'm not sure I want to know how much it would cost.

I'm sure the cost will be through the roof, due to the newness of the item. Who knows, by the time Oct. rolls by, there's a small chance the CADPAT vest will be general issue. I say if you're not willing to wait, then : put up with your 82 webbing OR order a OD vest from another manufacturer like HSGI, Eagle, Blackhawk,SOE etc... and deal with the repercussions when you show up on Parade/EX wearing it:^(
Me I really like that Denali/Logan rig by HSGI....am thinking about it......just need some to save some more pennies...Damn xchange rate:mad:

If I had to make a pick I'ld probably go with an Arktis 42 pattern chest rig. And a London Bridge Trading Co. 3 Day Asslt Pack, or Ranger Pack. I had a NBCW Bag and it litterally came apart at the seams after I stuffed in 4 belts of 7.62, and a cleaning kit... Pac Safety also has the JTF vests as well, but the flak I'ld get if I wore one of those.. "budding squirrel eh?.. well, well. do I have the job for you." :D

One of our fellow board member actually works for Pacsafety and sent me some goodies recently and a set of their catalogs. Very interesting. They do sell the new tacvest in any color you want them to make it in, but not cadpat, more cause they have trouble getting it than anything else. I'd think if you're in the CF they might make an exception if they had the fabric. I have the molle compatable bayo frog that mounts to the front and it's a well made piece. I'll probably be getting some of their EMS type things in the future and will share with the board about what I think of them. They will sell the new tac vest in OD now if anyone wants, but i don't know a price. Personally I'm not super impressed with it. a few interesting ideas on it but overall a waste of space, only 4 mags, the side pouches are too specialized and the front pouches seem lame... it looks real purty in cadpat though.

With all the so-called patents the CF has on CADPAT, PSP will probably issue it only to DND, then from there it gets issued to CF personnel. Still not keen on the whole set-up though!
I'm wondering with regards to the new LBV in question, will it entirely replace the 82' webbing/Bosnia vest set up, or will we be able to shuffle between useing that other kit as well? Anyone tapped into the Gagetown grapevine to see what other "goodies" they're coming out with? :^)
P.S. Also heard a rumor that the CF is looking at replacing that crap plastic back-up C-7 sight, with a more quality item, the a.r.m.s.#40 flip-up rear sight....could this be a subtle shift away from the Elcan perhaps..any truth to that?

Saw a memo from the Infantry School about new wpns and modifications that might be coming out. The ones I can remember is they want to replace the current 9mm pistol and sniper rifle, might add a C8 type stock to all C7s with more settings, and a retractable stock for the C9. Most of the Clothe the Soldier stuff is handled out of NDHQ not CTC. The CADPAT sniper smock is pretty cool but most of us won't ever wear one.
