How muhc time do active duty warrant officers spend on ODA's at the W-1 and W-2 levels? As I understand it, W-3s and up generally are assigned to company and battalion staffs. But I think its about 2 years from W-1 to W-2, and then 6 to W-3 and up, or at least it was untill recently. Is most of this time spent on ODAs?

Thanks

You are supposed to stay on a team as a warrant until you reach CW3. Of course that isn't always the case. After you graduate Ft.Rucker two years from that date you should be promoted to CW2, bar any tremendous fu** up on your part. I like the position, some people don't.

Jeff,

Thanks for your response. How long is the 180A course at Bragg? I beleive I read here at one point that once you complete that course, you're automatically promoted to CW-2, do they still do that? Is it still 6 year from CW-2 to CW-3?

Thanks

Kav,
The course at Bragg is 4 months, SERE school is included in that unless you've already been there. You won't get promoted to CW2 until 2 years after your graduation from Rucker, no way around it. They are working on getting the requirement lowered for SF guys for CW3. Currently 6 years after your promotion to CW2 you have about a 80-90% chance of getting CW3. It is possible to be promoted below the zone at 5 years but its very competitive. The current promotion system is geared towards aviation warrants. They enter service as a warrant officer so they don't have the service requirments that SF does. On one hand there is the requirement that you can not have more than 10 years of service to apply but on the average guys who come to SF have 4-7 years of army service already. If it takes at least 3 years of team time, I'd prefer to see 5-7 years, to even think about warrant you can see the problem.
