I was wondering what you guys down under thought about committing units like 2 or 3 RAR to the fight in Afghanistan...I regularly search Aussie, Canadian and British news sites and find very interesting articles on the actions and activities of our allied brothers that U.S. news sites never write about...I just saw a CBC story about 3 PPCLI troopers leading another op over there and wondered about Aussie troops...unless I missed it there has been no mention of conventional Aussie troopers in the fight...I am surprised that we have not asked for such units given the quality and training of your infantry battalions...is there a political reason they haven't been sent? I certainly hate the idea of sending men into harm's way but I am surprised such skilled "regular" Aussie units haven't been sent that way...any thoughts? Thanks for the replies and thanks for your SASR and other folks doing such a great job for all of us...

There was talk originally of 3RAR to be deployed then it changed to 6RAR as 3 are being rotated through Timor at the moment.

Our Prime Minister as pledged to commit forces to any further push in the current war, where ever that may be.So you never know.

What we don't get is why there are no Aussie forces in the Phillippines, jungle is our gig.
There are other factors like manpower and being to thin on the ground.
I expect to see SASR or 4RAR CDO involved in more action.
We also have to watch our backyard.
Any RAR battalion would be good to go if they got the word.
