View Full Version : What to take to BCT?
Just wondering.
What exactely can you take and get into BCT and how exactely do you bring this with you?
I have a ton of equipment left over from a couple years of ROTC. I was wondering if I will be able to sneek in any of the following:
-All Leather COMBAT BOOTS (Broke in but shined) -Terrain model -Mini mag light (w/ holder to fit LCB) -Extra padding for kevlar -Extra pad for ruck -water proof notebook that holds pencil and map -Supplements (vitamins, Advil, fat burners, etc.) -Poison Ivey blocker -BDU cap (lucky) -Running shoes -Ear plug holder
If there are any other suggestions on what to bring or how to get them in I would greatley appreciate it.
Thanks

Bring toiletries, MINIMAL amount of civvies, shower shoes, shoe polish kit, running shoes, white sox, sunscreen, laundry soap, ect.
No knives, no weapons, no tobacco, no porn....
Do not bring vitamins or pills unless they are perscribed by a doctor. Chances are that if you need them to survive then you should not have made it past the physical.
It is best not to bring any private owned military uniforms, boots, earplug cases or whatever else because it will be issued to you. If you are in the guard and received partial issue from your unit then bring it if you are told to. Do not bring helmet pads, ruck pads, or insoles because some drill sgts will not allow them.
Consider this when you pack your shit for basic training. There will be a point where the drill sgts will make you carry all your shit up a long steep hill. PACK LIGHT!

You'll be shaken down a buncha' times when you first inprocess. Just bring what's on the pre-made list.
I attended the 5 1/2 week ROTC "Camp Challenge" at Ft. Knox. I realize that this is no way the same as BCT. It was supposed to be similiar but the DI's were instructed to comfort those wanting to quit as you were allowed to leave any time you wanted.
But, we did have just enough time on some nights to polish one guys boots for him while he would sprint down to the gas station and use his military ID (he snuck through the shake downs) to buy everyones chew and dip.
Is there any chance of this in BCT? Its nice having a little chew to pass the time while in the ORP during STX lanes.
Thanks for all the info though.
Anyone have a suggestion on what type of running shoes to buy? I just ran my Asics into the ground and want to get a new pair for BCT. -I noticed the PX at Ft. Knox had them a bit cheaper. Would anyone suggest just waiting to buy a new pair when I am on base some time?
Out.

In a word, don't take anything you don't have to.
Depending on when you are going, pack accordingly. I made the mistake of going in the summer, and by the time I had any free time OUT of a uniform, it was fall/winter. The only things I'd packed were shorts, T-Shirts, Birkenstock sandals, and the like. I had to completely outfit myself for winter. Wasn't cheap.
If you are going to Benning, you are allowed to bring 2 books, "We Were Soldiers once, and Young" and "Starship Troopers". Those are the only books you may read there in addition to whatever holy book you choose and your Smart Book.
Don't even bring cough drops. They'll take 'em away from you.
Did someone serously ask about chew? uhhh...NO. You can't chew during basic.
Bring enough to fit in a small bacg you can carry with you everywhere. If you bring magazines, be ready to throw 'em away when you get there. Or, pack 'em in your clothes, you won't see them OR your clothes until you are OUT of Basic.
