Suggest you call your local recruiter if you want to full skinny on this.

Yep, they put a tracking label on your forehead and you get next day delivery via FedEX! ;)

I think so many folks are worried about these slots. Look, if you really want to do this you will find a way. We have a guy who flies Space-A in from California for drill.

You have no excuse for joining an SF unit if that is really, really what you want.

Let's see, the last time i checked there were four enlisted mos for the pipeline. 18X is mos immaterial.

Damn funny 20thSFGT!!! I thought the exact same thing when I read that.

I'm just wondering, does anyone other 18x'rs or REP63'ers have an OCT ship date?

I got it back in FEB, and kids signing up now are leaving in a month. That's fast. Personally I'm enjoying the prep time, but I'm just looking for an OCT buddy.

Relax and enjoy the time off. You have to crawl before you can run. Going through as an 18D you have a long time before you will get long tabbed like 2-1/2 to 3 years and that's if you're lucky. So relax and enjoy yourself. Good luck and do the best you can.

I thought that you were assigned a designation after going SFAS. As in, we're all 18x, and then they look at the GT scores and such and assign you 18D, 18E, etc. Was I mistaken?

My understanding is that 18Xs get tracked into a specific MOS after SFAS.

Doesn't really matter till Phase III anyway.

Welcome back, Crow.

Remember, come back with your shield, or on one.

You can only choose 18bravo or 18charlie (Weapons/Engineer) with the 11bravo with 18xray option contract. Do some research.

Wrong, now your turn to do some research.

The GoArmy.com website says that the Civilian>SF recruiting program is only for Weapons Sergeant and Engineering Sergeant, I believe.

Yet when I got my contract, I was told I go in as 18x and the Qualification course determines my MOS. So I dunno what's up with the Army's site. I'd heard at my local recruiting station that they put a guy in as 18x. Apparently he passed SFAS and went through the Q course. They told him he could be an SF Medic. He turned it down and went back to infantry, saying he wanted a combat MOS.

Now, I know very, very little about SF, but I would think that being an SF Medic would get you the same general training as the other SF guys... Like weapons and combat training... Seemed kinda stupid to turn down a job like that because of his own assumption. I mean, jebus...! My preference isn't Medic, but I'd damn well take it if offered.

Well anyway, I guess civilian to SF recruits get offered not just weapons or engineer, but whatever MOS they qualify for..? That's the impression I got, from around here, and from my recruiter.

Please, emphasize.

I was under the impression Major General Boykins, USAJFKSWCS commander had established 18xers could only become weapons/engineer, but things must have changed.

Also, don't hesitate to put 18D or 18E on your dream sheet. Being an 18X will not hold you back. In fact, of the 13 SOPC brothers I graduated SFAS with, not one was Bravo, and four of us got Delta.

Regarding restrictions on MOS. They DON"T exist. All MOS's are available. I actually requested 18C as my number 1 choice and got 18E my #2 choice. Almost every 18X got D or E, with a few B and C. The truth is, if your GT score is high enough and you score well on the written tests, expect to get D or E. I think the only reason I did not get D was it was my last choice. Of course its all dependant upon needs of the Regiment. The only benchmark I really heard was you needed a 120 for D.

Obviously changed. Thanks fellows for the heads-up.
