Problems with volunteers?

It's not a big secret that the military as a whole is currently having problems with getting people to enlist thus, the military is coming up short handed.
I was wondering if the SpecOps. community from all or any of the services have a problem getting people to volunteer for the "high-speed" line of work? Are the sevices falling short of "high-speed, low-drag" individuals. Is the Spec.Ops community; be it, SEALS, Rangers, Special Forces or Marines having problems coming up with prospective candidates? Who's in need of quality operators the most? Any comments?

I know that the USAF CCT program is changing its PAST and that CCT's will no longer be going to INDOC but will do the PT phase of thier training while at ATC school at Keesler AFB... chiefly because there hasnt been a CCT (officer) graduate from the Pipleline in over a year and a half... the career field is hurting and they need guys, so they are changing it up... not a bad idea - besides, when the hell was the last time a CCT needed all the water confidence that the PJ's need anyway? The PJ's are getting officers to... "Combat Rescue Officers" who will also go through the pipeline, and wear the maroon beret...

The whole thing of CCT not attending Indoc has stirred up a shit storm. Personally I think it is a mistake. It appears that all branches of the military are having problems retaining troops. And I agree something needs to be done to change that. Unfortunately it seems like they are lowering standards and trying gimmics like everyone gets to wear a beret (Army). Going back to quantity not quality. Just my .02.

It was made apparent that all Spec.Ops groups were having problems fillings slots and getting volunteers. Has any of the SOF changed their qual's to get new recruits?
Has any qualifications/screening tests been lowered to get more people? Should the standards be lowered?

The AF is changing the requirements for CCT's, so that the Screening Test has less swiming requirements, and CCT's will NOT be going through INDOC anymore, instead training as ATC's first so that if they bust out on the physical requirements, they can still be ATC's.

The Military needs new incoming recruites but i think the whole MEPS situation needs looked at. I went to MEPS with a Ranger contract, I come from a slender family its in the genes. I shoudlnt have passed the first time but they did and gave me a bootcamp leave date. i went back and was reweighed, i was 4 lbs underweight. (yes i know im a beanpole), went back and was 1 lb underweight the friggen Surgeon General of the Army denied a 1 lb exception, but at the same time they added to my height, so now i have more weight to gain. They should allow the MEPS Surgeons to make the call if its that close, im obviously healthy, in good shape. Its the only thing keeping me back.

MEPS doctors are bottom of the barrel doctors. The ones I had looked like they had spent their whole adult lives boozing it up and they were all pasty white and flabby looking. Someone should have put them on a PT program and chased their ass all over town, calling them "lazy faggot doctor" and making them do push ups. I wouldnt want a MEPS doctor as my doctor anyday. In fact, I figure thats how they got that job was cause they are not worth a shit. All the people at MEPS look like that by the way, pasty white and fat and lazy looking.


Seriously, a big part of the reason why the military has recruiting problems is cause of the culture that exists in there. Word spreads fast. They need to badly quit recruiting high school dropouts...period. A military with few to none high school dropouts that is somewhat undermanned is better than a military that is fully manned, yet full of dumbass HS dropouts. A culture which revolves around high school dropouts and borderline alcoholism is not one that attracts decent quality people.

I find it odd that the two services with the least amount of recruiting problems are the two services which have the heaviest restrictions for high school dropouts. That would be the Air Force and the Marine Corp. Seems like these two services are not hurting that badly for new recruits. Both restrict dropouts from enlisting pretty on a fairly strict basis. And compared to the Army and Navy, they are doing pretty good recruiting wise. Gee I wonder why.

If the military severely restricts allowing HS dropouts from enlisting in the first place, gradually over time the military culture will improve. Then, more decent quality people will be attracted to military service because word will spread that the military isnt just for fuckup loser high school dropouts anymore.

Or at the very least, over time the NCO corp will be comprised almost entirely of high school grads, not GED holding dropouts. Enlisted leadership would improve as a result and the idiot treatment would be needed less. Recruiting would go up.
