Does anyone know where Col. Bob Montel and
LTC. Bob Howard are, or how they are, or what
their up to ???

I used to work personally for both of them.
I last saw "Bad-Bob" Howard at Fort Benning at a Battalion pre-command course; just prior to him taking a Mech Unit in Germany. That was 1984. I think he retired around 1990(?).
Bob Montel hired me as technical advisor in 1986 when he re-wrote the SO Doctrine Manual; and the SF Manual as well. COL Montel was a civilian by then; he just finished his attache duty in India.
You may want to check with the SF Association and see if the membership knows where they might be.

Thank you for your response. I knew Maj. Howard left SWC/S Phase I OIC. Camp Mackall/Rowe, to pickup LTC., thought he moved on to Cmdr. Det-K. 1984-85. ?
Thanks for the update on Col. Monetl. Had prior inquirie w/ SF Assoc. NC., still unconfirmed.

Tracy, You ever know a LTC Snapp, MSG Updegraff or a SFC Mallon? Friends that I lost track of and wondered what ever happened to them. Last seen they were still behind the fence.

If the Col. Howard you are referring to is the same Col. Howard authorized to wear the MOH then he is still in San Antonio the last I heard. Within the last 18-24 months I believe he had some fairly significant back surgery.
Whisky8, if I didn't know better I'd guess that you were referring to an establishment a stones throw from Stanley. Memories of the 1st Annual Sgt. Lynch Award, and Delnogo.

Whiskey8, Are you the guy with the website that claims that you did a bunch of black ops for the CIA? I believe he called himself whiskey8 also. Just wondering if you were the same guy.

Whisky8,
I never heard how much time Delnogo got. Strange to think that his incompetence is what saved his butt from the needle.
We overlapped a little. I remember the award being made after you would have left though. Possible he got more than one. The event I'm familiar with involved the use of a picture that was the object of more than one search. A proprietor of a local establishment also received a dozen roses at this graduation. Same award?
Major 'M' still bopping around Bragg?

Guess that you must have been there about the same time (Sep 90-Jul 91). I'm sure you know that Delnogo is probably still doing time... As for the Larry Lynch award, are you refering to the naked "Ken doll" in the BOHICA position?.

1. When you fall through the sky and all you see is Blue-Green-Blue-Green-Blue-Green-Blue-Green; pull on Green.
2. When you have a malfunction look up and yell "BLUE SKY, BLACK DEATH", then cut away.
3. When the people look look like ants, pull. When the ants look like people, save the pack job.

Fred and Chief,(LMFAO), Thanks for the advice guys. I'm getting better. Just not as fast as I would like. Speaking of kicks to the head and seing blue/green, I screwed up the count the other day on a 2-way with my buddy. I saw him dive but couldn't get away fast enough so he piles into me in mid-air. Bear in mind he has about 1,200 freefalls and I have 32. So, much to my dismay, he grabs onto me as we are tumbling and is laughing his ass off. After he finally decided to let me go and I got stable I decided it was funny too but failed to see the humor for those first few seconds. I remain convinced that my count was ok and that he did it on purpose. He's a nut. He weighs approx. 170 lbs and is jumping a 107 sq ft canopy if that tells you anything. It's always the main attraction watching him land that thing.

Wait till he gets 2000 jumps and 40 years; then see if he's still jumping with a wing loading of 1.58:1.
There's an idiot out here that weighs 160 pounds and jumps an experimental 27-cell 46 square foot canopy. That's a wing load of 3.47:1
There are old jumpers, there are bold jumpers; but there ain't no old and bold jumpers.

Whiskey 8: to revert back to your earlier post, I have to assume you're talking about "Betty's Battalion", right off post at Ft. Sam. When I was there, Betty asked me for a "Navy" hat to add to her collection and I gave her a white dixie cup. I don't think she'll ever forgive me http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/wink.gif

Tracy, I would LOVE to see a picture of that experimental "canopy"! Sounds like you guys will be having a funeral around there soon. We had one this year. A fatal mal on fathers day. But, at least the guy wasn't asking for it. You know Bob Kern? He runs the DZ here. Great guy. Oh yeah, did you happen to know any of those guys in my post above?

Whiskey & Sharky:
My first freefall was with an MC1-1 or (gasp!) an MC1 (slip-riser steering) using a 4-pin main and a 24-foot flat circular with a four-line release on a belly mount.
I did HALO School using MC1s with the slip risers in 1979.
I had a hot-dog last year that was doing hook turns near the spectator area at Lodi with a 110 sq ft. canopy. He missed me and my daughter by four feet and 50 mph. I walked over to him and said that he had all of the DZ to land in, could he please land farther away? Mr. 500-jump Commando informed me that 'whuffos' should watch out for HIM.
OK, Mr. Nice doesn't work; let's try one of his relatives, Mr. Drill Sergeant. I exchanged words to the effect that if he clips my daughter, her friends, or me, I'd twist his neck shut then turn the remains over to the DZ Owners. The Dauses are NOT amused by jumpers who scare off their tandem income; and I'm considered 'family'. The next jump, the dingbat was landing in the middle of the DZ, away from the spectators.
Kids...
p.s. BTW, I do have one jump from a C-119; plus the C-123 w/o the jets.

But have you jumped from an AN2 CUB?
I live in the UAE. There's a russion here who runs a jump club in Umm al Qawain (one of the northern emirates, a bit smaller than a Walmart parking lot). He used to test new chutes for the Russians. Guess they all worked. Airstrip is right off the road. I was driving by when this Cub takes off. I just about wrecked. I'd only seen pictures in Aircraft ID cards. Didn't realize just how big it is. BTW, I not HALO q'd. Spent all my time on a Scuba team. Went to the post AFF course. Got weathered out on first jump, deployed a week later. When I came up for breath I was working here. Plan on taking this guys AFF course when I get the bucks together. First jump after qual is going to be in a dishdash and headrag.
Oh yeah, never heard of the two guys at the start of topic, but I can almost remember being in Betty's. All I can really remember is going in the door, although there was this blond that tracked me down to Ft Bragg.
Cheers,
Patrick LaRocque

Trident,
Showing the board to a buddy that is visiting and went through Sam about the same time you did. He spotted another post of yours and wants to know the following: Did Cag take the Love Boat with him when he left Sam?
