Yeah Yeah, I know that the ground pounders love to underestimate the mission of the fly boys, and I'm sure there have been many a SEAL fist meeting with a Jet Jockey's Jaw but needless to say, does anyone know of any naval aviators completing BUD/S? That would seem to me to be a major accomplishment, considering the reputation of pilots not liking to get "down and dirty" with other certain snake eating sailors.

CAPT William M Shepherd is a designated Naval Flight Officer and Naval Astronaut, in addition to his SpecWar designation.

I can name two: William Brinkman (former A-6 pilot), and Mark Farley (NFO). I'm sure there are more.

I know a couple, but I'm leaving names out of this.

One of them was actually one of the best "O"'s I've ever seen. 100% behind the guys.

I've seen a few SEALs become pilots as well.

Yep, I've seen a few of those also (BUD/S Grad to Army WO).

I don't think it's too uncommon for SpecOps types to spread their wings a little. Over acheviment is common in this field.

Not to walk in another dog's yard, but I did meet Bill Shepherd one time, he spoke at my school. Very interesting and nice individual.

Edit: I'm a flagrant idiot. It was Bill McArthur. Feel free to delete.

I knew a guy named Benny G***n who had been an enlisted SEAL, then became an officer and aviator, then returned to the Teams for the remainder of his career.

Benny was a hell raiser. His SEAL det was involved in a "famous" incident at the Snead's Ferry Bridge outside Camp Lejeune during a SOCEX several years ago. Any of the old timers remember this?

Benny is a CAPT now and stationed in Norfolk. See him about once a week - I'll ask him about the incident;)
