I just finished reading the book and wanted to thank the people who urged me to read it on this board. You guys were right on the dot, the movie did not do the book justice at all. I've never found so many ideas cramped into such a short read. Heinlein's motif of praising the Infantry gets a little ... boring at times. The MI seems to be a mix between the Marine Corps and the Airborne Although i doubt many on this board would have a problem with that :D all in all it was a great read:)

to say that is like saying the Titanic was only slightly dented ...
:D

when I left the movie theater I felt a sudden urge to blow something up ...

if you loved "starship troopers" try some of heinlin's other books , they are not military related but still a great read .

His career was short (3 years I think), but even in his other books, it is evident that his time in the military impacted his outlook greatly.

Although many of his other books (fiction & non) are less directly mil. oriented as ST, nonetheless, they all have the same thread of duty, honor, "kill before getting killed" in them.

Read them all - fic & non. Wish there was an FOG around who actually served with him to get further input.

As far as fiction, Glory Road was the best book I've ever read...

I bet you it was more than 3 years. My father was a huge Heinlein fan. He has all the books. if you liked Starship Troopers try reading the moon is a harsh mistress. It is a little bit wierd but it still is good.

You win the bet.

Just checked, he was in the Navy 5 years, not 3. Retired from active as a Lt. after he contracted tuberculosis.
