UNITED STATES SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND
OFFICE OF THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF
7701 TAMPA POINT BLVD.
MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, FLORIDA 33621-5323

POLICY MEMORANDUM 01-01

MEMORANDUM FOR: JAN 2 2 2001

COMMANDER, U.S. ARMY SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND, BLDG E-2929, #1 DESERT STORM DRIVE, FT BRAGG, NC 28307-5202

COMMANDER, NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE COMMAND, NAB CORONADO, SAN DIEGO, CA 92155-5037

COMMANDER, AIR FORCE SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND, 100 BARTLEY STREET, HURLBURT FIELD, FL 32544-5273

COMMANDER, JOINT SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND, POST OFFICE BOX 7239, FORT BRAGG, NC 28307-5000

CENTER DIRECTORS, UNITED STATES SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND, 7701 TAMPA POINT BLVD, MACDILL AFB, FL 33621-5323

SUBJECT: Participation in Commercial, Combat-Oriented Events

1. Personnel assigned to units within the United States Special Operations Command are prohibited from participating in commercial, combat-oriented competition events in either their personal or official capacities. Events prohibited include, but are not limited to, Ocombat boxing" events, "tough man" contests, "combat missions" competitions, survival events, non-DoD competitions pitting special operations forces and other elite Government entities against each other, and similar events.

2. It is inappropriate to associate DoD and special operations forces with these types of events or to tend our skills and respected unit designations in direct or indirect support of private commercial endeavors. Pitting special operations forces against each other in such events is detrimental to the Joint teamwork developed within USSOCOM. These events, very simply, are inconsistent with our values, standards, and Quiet Professionalism; they present unnecessary hazards that threaten the health, safety, welfare, and teamwork of our warriors.

3. Please take immediate and continuing action within your command to effect this policy and its intent.

4. This policy expires two years from the date of publication.

General, U.S. Air Force
Commander in Chief

As much as I'd like to take credit...

Hell with it, "Thank You, Thank You Very Much..."

Seriously, I have a feeling that someone's email hit a nerve. It's nice to see the good guys win one every once in a while.

Now, if we can change that damned Army Beret Color...

Great News; thank you very much for the post.

Tracy,
See if you can work your majic with president G W Bush(omg!! I love the way that sounds!!). Maybe he can issue some executive orders protecting the right of passage, like JFK did with the Green Beret.

THANKS TRACY and ALL of the rest of YOUSE who raised hell!!! Here is a copy of my last letter to those idiots. I am giving them one more shot LOL
Ok Boys,

Now that SOCOM has put the word out on you bozos... I have one small suggestion to save your show. Donate every cent (including your producer fee Mark Burnett) to the widows and children of every US and Allied Special Operations Soldier who has died in the last 40 years. EVERY CENT...Maybe then some of us BTDT's will get behind the show otherwise mess with the best and off to the dust bin of stupid ideas you go...Ohh and one more thing... If you are really one of us Mark Burnett, then fly back to England and go to the Parachute Regiment and set up a trust fund for the kids of your mates in the Regiment. That's the only way you are going to get our support. SUA SPONTE.

I used to see nothing wrong with this show. I guess I now understand what you guys are trying to say. This is an unselfish profession.

I know my one letter really didn't do the trick. But a whole bunch of letters, some going to the right people, certainly did the trick.

In all all seriousness, thanks guys; you made a difference.

Now that the Texas 7-1 are back in custody and looking at the death penalty, this is going to be a Hoo-Ahh Day today.

party at Sharky's...
