I want to know what would happen if I served in the canadian forces for x amount of years then decided to leave and Join the states army. I was born in the states so thats not a problem, but would I have any restrictions on clearance or anything - like if I wanted to be a ranger or some other special job?

No offense to Canadians I am one but why would you want to join the CF if you can already join the US military?

Mud is mud, a rifle is a rifle, Bosnia is Bosnia, and NCO's are the same everywhere.
Just a guess... Patriotism? A wish to serve one's country? A desire to serve with some of the finest individuals in the nation who have a record second to none?

Why would you join the French when you can join the CF? A FAR more sucessful military than France...

Disturbance, Talk to Cree Warrior on here. I think he did something like that--but he may be a Canadian citizen.

Frenchie, you're canadian? How come you talk about joinig French army (Legion excluded)? I thought they really insisted on citizenship and french citizenship, like in most european countries, is a pain in the a** to get.

The question is not about which one to join. I am gonna be in the CF first and foremost. Just like I said though what would it be like for me if I switched over later on...would it be better for me or more restrictive?

If you wanna join the US military and get a decent MOS/rate/designator you need to get US citizenship first. Without that you can't get a security clearance. Without a security clearance you can forget about special operations, intel, and a ton of other good stuff. I guess you could always be an 11B (not that there is anything wrong with that).

I was born on the island of OAHU in a lil town called kahuku. I live there for three years afterwards. My parents are both Canadian but my moms dad is American (not that matters).Regardless I beleive I am a US citizen. Actually this is what I am asking does this make me qualified or not for a clearance. Yes I have a canadian citizenship but also US one. Its not like I am just some canuck who would be interested in serving down there...well I kind of am..but you get what I mean.

Disturbance. You are a US citizen because you were born of US soil. Thing is living in your country, I've noticed most Canadians hate Americans with passion. With friends like that who needs enemies...

Thats not shot at you, I wish you the best of luck if you do join the US military. I was just wondering why, considering the attitude of your country towards mine.

Rapier: What you see is just the the actions of some immature Canadians. Mostly teens and young adults who haven't gone out and seen the world, or figured out that it's just a joke between our countries. That's all it is, meant in jest. The same can be said about some of your countrymen as well.
But when it comes to the professionals, we have the utmost respect for them, and as far as I know, many US soldiers who have worked with Canadian Forces will say the same.
