Greetings
I am going to do an essay on the Vietnam conflict's affects on the west. So obviously I'm looking at the wars impact on America, but also perhaps France. Anyone have any suggested readings that aren't too heavily indepth? It may be diffucult, but I'm trying keep the essay fairly short.

First...F**k the French!
Second..F**k the French!

In reality there is not a way to do an uncomplicated analysis of the Vietnam War and it's impact on American society, and the west.
In my opion you would be better off doing an analysis of American society and it's impact on the Vietnam War..Just a thought.
It is not going to be easy in any event..

Again, in my opinion. If you want to keep it simple, you might read SAIGON..while it is a historical novel and a long one at that...It tends to be accurate about the geo/political intrigue that lead to the War.

You might also try The Qualitity of Mercy...again, long winded, but it deals with the the end of the Vietnam War as it was experienced by the Cambodian people. Not many of them arround to talk about it first hand.

Interesting point. Perhaps I'll narrow it down to US involvement; could the US have had a decisive victory? That should touch on enough areas to round it out.

While the subject of the Vietnam War is obviously intersting, I see now I may not do it justice in the interset of time.

The U.S. could have won a decisive victory in Viet Nam.
Many reasons contributed to our failure to do so, including but not limited to the following:

The failure of the U.S. government to develope and execute a presice plan to gain victory.

The failure of the U.S. government to let the military conduct warfare without constant micro-management.
