My thoughts are with those SOG men who paid the ultimate price and others whose lives were shortened by wounds received in action.

If anyone's interested in some very in-depth history of SOG, check out J.Plaster's SOG books www.ultimatesniper.com. (http://www.ultimatesniper.com.) Also, the History Channel has a great show called "The Warrior Tradition: Green Berets." It contains a fairly concise overview of SOG through interviews with former members.

Those guys definately deserve it,,,and more. I was very lucky to see part of the ceremony. Unfornately I was only there for about forty minutes because I had a formation to go to. I saw John Plaster recieve the first minted MACVSOG coin. Pretty cool. Also there were various indiginious(sp?) troops there who served on SOG RT's. They deserve it too.

Hi Ler!

Yes! The recon guys of MACV-SOG certainly earned the PUC! It's too bad more individual awards (Silver Stars, DSC, & CMOH) were not given to these guys.

I didn't play in their league, but I can assure you that the "pucker facter" was extremely high on their operations. Not everyone in SF had what it took to run recon!

Tonight at our SFA Chapter XII meeting, I plan to propose a tip of the beret or a "Hymn" for the SOG troopers present. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/biggrin.gif

Take care!

Carl

Last night at our SFA Chapter XII meeting/dinner, I brought-up MACV-SOG's recent PUC. BG Ron F____ (Retired) jumped-in by describing the significance and level of this award to further recognize our members that received the award.

Only two of our five members that served in SOG attended last night's meeting. However, Ed D____ was there. This is his forth PUC! Two from Korea, the 5th SFG (Abn) RVN, and now MACV-SOG RVN. He has several valor awards for action while serving multiple tours with the 5th's Delta and then later tours with CCN. He is a true example of a "Quiet Professional"/warrior!

Thanks for that link W8. I remember several years ago then COL. Tagney coming up to 10th Group at Devens to give a talk to the Group. I cannot recall then or at any other time any mention of him being SOG. I guess the true professionals really do keep it low key. Amazing. My hat is definetly off to SOG and the other RVN vets.

Thanks to you also MADMIK. That very info can be found right here on Specialoperations.com/Focus also. And a few names down was another recognizable. Brig. Gen. Frank J. Toney, who assumed command of 10th from COL. Tagney as COL. Toney is now Brig. Gen Toney, head of SOCOM, soon to be head of USASFC. Very small world indeed.
