A former SF Qual.(prior to the tabs) guy has joind my Med.Det.(NG) as an officer, O-2(RN). Prior service as a MSGT with a 91B4S MOS.
I am unable to find a copy of AR672-5-1 that relates to the authorization of the SF tab.
A few people say that he is authorized the tab..a few say that he is not...(This man only wants to do the right thing). Any help would be appreciated.....Oh yea, anyone wanna to buy a clerk? Cheep!
Thanks!

NGDOC,
Someone at the Proponency office at SWCS should be able to answer this.
Here are some listed numbers;
If you are calling commercial use the 910 area code. DSN prefix is 239.
Chief 432-9002
SF Branch MGR 432-2415
ADMIN NCO 432-1639
I hope this helps.

Doc's advice is the best way to get the correct answer.
I don't know the official rule, however I do
know that many SF'ers who retired prior to the "long tab" being authorized have worn it on their uniforms after retirement. One example that comes to mind was Roy Benavidez, MOH who retired in 1976, who can be seen in official Army photos wearing the
tab. Roy went through SFTG in 1966, MOS 11B4S, so it seems that the tab would be authorized.
Please post what the SF Branch Proponency Office says.

Thanks!
Knew I came to the right place....I'll make the calls tomorrow and post the results.
Doc Donovan never wore the long tab, just the SF patch on his right shoulder that he earned in Vietnam. IIRC, he was authorized to wear the long tab, but for reasons of his own, he chose not to.

As I understood it, or as it was explained to me when we went to Branch. SF qualification authorized you to wear the tab, it was an admin retro award type business, and in fact the long tab was knowingly awarded to a few that had never been SF qualified. The discrimination was in the determination of who became 18 series, or branch qualified. As I understand it that allowed some house cleaning to occur.

Thanks for the assistance guys!
Former SF members prior to the tabs are allowed to wear the tab. However, there are a few requirements that must be met first.
The member in question must call: Ms. St Onge at 910.432-2220 (JFKSWC&S), presumeably a check of the records to verify SF qualification will be conducted. The JFKSWC&S will then issue an order aurhorizing the tab to be worn.

There was a time when only one tab was authorized for wear, and if you had both you had to make the decision which one. It caused some comments, and a little harassment until there was authorization to wear both tabs. That may be why someone chose not to wear the long tab.

If this guys records (DD-214) show that he's been awarded the mos of 91B4S he is definitely authorized to wear the SF Tab on the left shoulder above whatever unit patch he may be wearing.
