In the New ISR journal issue number 5 there is an article by Capt Eric M Grave USAF titled "Eyes of the Dragon"
The article talks about time critical targeting and in order for the airforce to do this properly you need to have eyes on the ground. His idea is that since the special forces teams are over tasked right now that new SSTs (Special Sensor Teams) should be created. These teams would be made up of Intelligence personnel and other specialists that would recieve special training in addition to their primary skills in order to operate behind enemy lines. So they would take HUMINTers, Linguists, Biowarfare specialists, secuirty forces etc and send them to airborne training and other courses to prepare them for this type of operation.
it's an interesting article. the ISR journal is free to military and DOD personnel and the website is www.afji.com
Has anyone heard of this proposed concept before?
