PD OUT

From http://www.300-way.com/pr/731.html

In the air:

1 Turbine DC-3 (with cargo door)
1 Skyvan
12 Twin Otters

In Reserve:

2 Twin Otters

Not sure why Fayard's Casa 212's weren't used, probably a political/ money/ prior commitments issue.

Congrats to all involved. Wish Sandy Wambach were there...:(

I'm guessing money was a big part of it. Skydive AZ owns what? The skyvan and 2 or 3 Twotters? Maybe more? So I THINK, not an airplane guy, but it is easier and cheaper to build the base from a skyvan and 3 or twotters than from 1 C-130. Traffic patterns would also be a problem. You can empty those mulitple smaller a/c faster than you can empty 1 big a/c.

First time I saw a skyvan, I mistook it for a parked winnebago with awnings on either side. Then my jump instructor tells me "that's what we're going up in" pointing to a giant refridgerator box with propellers. I had my doubts, and jumping backwards out the rear cargo hatch was a bit of relief.

Not the most graceful flyer the skyvan.

The King Air inspires the most confidence out of all the drop zone taxis I've been in, (besides the UH-60). That even though it's impractical in terms of setting up for large scale RW, and sometimes even for just getting out of cleanly! But it is fun to fly in and I'd sure as hell like to own one.
