View Full Version : More Aussie Commandos

December 25, 2002;
The Australian prime minister promised to add 310 troops to Australia's commando force. This will take about 18 months to implement. To get that many new commandos, the armed forces will have to recruit 2-3000 more troops. This is because only about eight percent of those who volunteer for commando duty can qualify. The army is determined not to lower standards for commandos, pointing out that it was the high standard of training and leadership that made the commandos so successful in Afghanistan.
Australia is also raising other rapid reaction forces in response to the death of over a hundred Australians in a Bali, Indonesia terrorist attack, and the discovery of terrorist activity among its own Moslem population.

C37B,
Just wondering are you going 4RAR or SASR?

I intend to go to the SFBT here in Townsville in June. My leadership may have me go to Malaysia, but if I am not slated for it I will go to the SFBT instead.
It is my dream to join the SF and yes I have every intention to go for it. No I am not in any way asscociated with them. Still I do my research.
I have my application form and train up info from the SFTC, so the ball is in my court.

What's the plan if you bomb big time and they scrawl across your course report 'never to re attend'? Another 2 1/2 years in the ville?
Swapping Townsville for Holsworthy is no escape, the only hope is to get to WA.
Malaysia's not a bad option, four months of hardcore whoring!
Those three week pulada courses are a good laugh if you can get on one, jungle survival and jungle patrolling and tracking, waste of time really you learn more at Tully.

mangda, I don't know who you are or anything about you. I don't plan to fail, and I wouldn't go if I didn't think I could make it. My reasons are my own. Obviously you consider failing an option. I don't.

Sorry I don't "whore" as you so delicately put it. This is my job and my life. I don't like to fuck around "whoreing" as you say. Besides my Wife would not appreciate that. How you spend your time is your business. Keep it that way!

Training is what you make of it isn't it.
Thanks for taking the time to provide such a useful response to this thread.

Jeez you sound like the life of the party!
Having confidence is great, but having a thin skin is dangerous, best you seriously have a plan B.

There is a difference between having a thin skin, and not thinking anything you wrote was constructive in any way. I have heard people like you speak about things all the time.
You know the type. Always negative. Think that everything is a joke, maybe even a waste of time.
I do have a thick skin, and have taken critisism from better people than you! If that is all you have to say to someone who intends to try for SF, then maybe you should just not post at all. You are not benefiting the Board. Have you ever tried for SF? Maybe too scared to make the commitment or put in the effort to become one of the elite?
I have been successfull in my military career thus far, being the way I am. I am not about to think that you know what type of person I am. Nor do you know if I have what it takes to make it. Thin skin? You sound as though you didn't enjoy your time in. Why is that?

...I see this all too often.... ..You see it is called an inferiority complex. Jealous of what the U.S. has and does. It's the old saying "If you can't be like them, make fun of them.....". Frankly, after living in Australia for awhile, I am sick of seeing and hearing from assholes like him. I hate the term Yanks aswell. Americans never say a derogatory thing about English or Australians unless struck at first. He deserves what he gets, the fake!
UberCree........ I have done the U.S. and now I am in the Australian Army. I was in the 65th En Bn in the U.S. for 4 or so years. Now I am in 3 CER (Combat Engineer Regiment) in Australia. I enjoyed my time in the U.S. alot. I would do anything to be back there now. I can PM you if you want to know more. I don't think my babbling about that belongs in this thread.
When the pressure gets applied you better not cough up this type of plaintiff cry, or if you do don't have tears in your eyes it'll only make 'em laugh harder.

Thanks for bringing that up Mangda. You only prove my point. You know you fit into that category as well. I see a trend forming here. Do you? Now do you have something worth while to add?
By the way what is your point? What are you trying to get at? What is your facination with "attempting" to bring me down or ruin this thread. Obviously I have hit a nerve. Well good. You don't know me. So your incessant hints suggesting that I will fail only makes ME laugh harder.
Unless you put up some credentials then I will not listen to you or post a response to you anymore. I'm sorry being a licensed brothel owner is not something to be proud of nor would I post it in a place like this. With all of the professionals around these forums, why would anyone listen to what you have to say. Especially when you only have negative, nonproductive things to say. I have entertained your childish jeers, now I will not any longer.
To Geoff_00: Thanks man. I am sure it will not be easy. I don't expect it to be. This is what i want to do. So I am going to do it. I appreciate your confidence. Take care.

I think we need to remain positive on this thread, a member of SOCNET is going for STBT and we should be encouraging him to pass it and become a member of SF.

You said it BG. It is a reoccuring problem, too many threads get way off track. I am guilty of it too. We were trying to have a good discussion. I apologise that it has turned out this way. Keep your heads up though. SOCNET is not all like this. See you around.

CASTLE37BRAVO,
good luck on SFBT, around the same time you are undertaking the jump of your career i should just be starting mine with basic training in the RAAF and then the Basic ADG course. How long have you been serving in the Australian Army? i was under the impression that it was 2 or more years.

I was under that same inpression too. However noone I have spoke to has really mentioned it when I expressed an interest to go. If it is the case then I will wait. I have been in the Army here since June 2002. I want to get an early jump on what I want to do with the rest of my career.
Thanks for the good wishes. Good luck to you in the RAAF. Keep your mind focused, and go for the goals you want. Let me know how you do from time to time. See you around.

Hey Im also applying to the RAAF, had the SQN interview and am posting the medical form this week.. hopefully one day will be working in Forward Air Control!!!
CASTLE37BRAVO, best of luck.
I'd also like to do that and was wondering from the experianced ppl here if something like this would be beneficial in the meantime:

Here's a question (maybe worthy of its own thread but what the heck) do you need a class A flight physical to do High Altitude parachuting? If so can personnel without it still find tasking within the SASR?

RKPO, good luck man. Hope you make it. Thanks for the link as well. Saved it to my favorites.
You can't go wrong with land nav practice. We recently did a CO's challenge and that was one of the events. The yamas where high, but it was good fun. We found all the 50 point targets, cause they were the farthest out and highest up. Like I said a lot of fun.

I would say you probably would need one. Don't quote me though. I assume you do not have one? I would think if you were going to do the course for HALO, a prerequisite would probably be a physical of some sort.
Not too many Aussie SF soldiers post here, so it will be hard to know for sure. Let me know if you find out anymore. Again good luck!
