View Full Version : Enlistment Questions (About SF medics)

I have a few questions about enlisting in the Army with the intention on going into the Rangers (and then to SF).

I was wondering if it is relatively "easy" to get airborne/RIP in my contract? (Should I hold out and accept nothing less?)

If I get RIP would I be going to the Ranger Regiment for my first tour? If not where would be the best place to go to ultimately end up in the Rangers/SF?

I would really like to come in as a medic (91B) is this a good choice for Rangers? Is there a "best MOS choice" for going Ranger / SF?(Ultimately I am aiming for 18D)

I am a 4 year navy vet and I am just about to graduate with a 4 year degree (BS Biology).

Will my degree allow me to come in as an E4?

Will my 4 years prior service be viewed as a bad thing??? (I talked to 2 Navy career councelors at about.com, I got the impression that being former Navy would actually work against me if I wanted to reenlist, the Navy views me as a "quitter" apparently, even though I got an honorable discharge. Truthfully I was wanting to go SEALs but I feel majorly dicked around by the Navy)

[Before posting I found this other guy on this forum in a similar situation as me (about same age, college degree, but no prior service) wanting to go in as a medic and ultimately get 18D. So I trying to avoid asking the same questions]

Thanks for any advice or help,
respectfully,
-jaf

-yes, at the very least get Airborne in your contract and visit the Ranger Liason in the Patches building at Airborne

aWill my degree allow me to come in as an E4?-it should depending on how your rank from prior service comes in to play

I should get E-4 depending on how my prior service rank comes into play?

Could some one explain this????

I left the Navy as a E-4 (honorable discharge) I figure that plus the fact that I have a 4 year degree would get me E-4 if I enlist in the Army.

I dont see how prior service could be a reason not to give me something that someone with no prior service would recieve....
but then again the military works in mysterious ways.

Also would I go through bootcamp again? (I wouldnt mind if I have to just curious)

thanks for the reply
