I am not familiar with the SBT concept. My uneducated guess would be that they are like a special ops aircrew on water. Is that a fair assesment? If so, why is there such an intensive screening process? Are they tasked to augment SEAL Teams on other than insertion/extraction missions? What would an unclassified version of their mission be? Just curious. Sounds like a really kick ass way to spend your time in the Navy.

That is too put it lightly, it is not only uneducated but an insult to all Boatguys that are on the job and no longer serving.
We have are own missions(which are too many to list in the short time i have to reply) that do not incorporate seal teams. We are not seals nor do we claim to be and we most certainly are not any kind or a taxi service. Support is a very small part of our mission.
As for why are the standards so high to become a Boatguy, have you ever been in a boat, out on mother ocean, doing 20-40 knots in a Sea state 4, in the dark of night for 8-12 hours? If not just have a buddy kick you in the junk about 400 times while throwing freezing water on you and you might get about 15% understanding about what it might feel like.
The earth is made up of 75% water, we have you surrounded.

In the future you might want to do a little research before making an uneducated guess on this board
This google search (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=special+boat+units) should help you start.

Fair enough. I asked a fair and honest question. In a rough way, you answered my question anyway.

Easeback boat guy,
Whats with the defensive tact? How many times have you worked with the 160th? How familiar are you with the gambit of games they play? The roles are not disimilar. How is paralleling a SOF aircrew insulting?
Am I qualified to comment; 5326/8491/9533 I threw ropes, popped killer tomatoes, drove fast things hard, and parked em with a kiss in PaCom & CentCom. It was a fair question.
Support is the primary mission of any unit driving platforms. What is your pac seat ratio to crew seats? That aught to tell you something.

Boatguy26,
It was a fair question. Maybe you should have directed Ryan to some information and history about the boat teams (you catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar). Ryan we are members of the MOST decorated combat unit in the 200 plus year history of the U.S. Navy! 5 soon to be 6 MOH, 59 Navy Crosses etc. I had lunch thursday with a man named Paul Wayne Cagle who served 3 years in Vietnam. He has 6 purple hearts and no right eye, even though he is 57 and his health is starting to slip alittle he has the heart of a boat team warrior to this day.
baboonass,
You seem like a solid fellow..I like your humor and way with words. I do not know how long you have been in specwar so I attribute some of you comments to humor or harmless chest beating. Anyways, for you guys out there that are interested in SBTs. start with the PBR Assoc.
Good Day!

9533...Good deal. Baboonass can shed the light if he so desires. I will say that Mr. Reunalt question is a viable one but using the search mode on this site first then ask will lighten the load of BS next time.

If I remember correctly, Ryan is also a Doorgunner on a PaveHawk, so I doubt he meant the Aircrew remark to be condescending.

Greetings Captain Frog, O-6, SBT Skipper, SEAL, Former USMC Officer, fellow Carolinian and all around difficult human being!
Since you and I sir, are of roughly the same vintage I shall not respond to the “ol’ man” remark.. LOL !!
Yes I do remember Chief Green! She and I spoke at the funeral. Very sharp lady!! Thanks for the invitation to the retirement, I would enjoy the fellowship and probably even your speech...LOL! However, I am unable to attend due to commitments here at the university. Give a bravo zulu to her and drink one for me.
The latest on the award is that it is in the appropriate committee in the Congress, and our teammate has strong support from many, many sectors.
Frog I will PM you his name for privacy reasons (he is listed on page 47 of the new membership directory). I know that you understand why!!
Good Day to You!

In no way did I mean this as any kind of disrespect. Hell, I'm the aircrew I inferred to. I had no idea what you guys do. My limited experience was upfront in the question. I also said that it sounded like a kick ass way to serve. If these boards aren't for education, why have them? I know, I know, always hit the search button first. My bad....I should have known better.
Edited after better judgement prevailed.

Ryan,
Unless the SATs from 15 years ago have failed me and my reading comprehension has depreciated, from perusing this thread, I see your question as being recognized as valid, unoffensive and your previous service duly noted and respected.

Sorry about the shortness of my last post, just getting tired of being compaired to other people. My last statements were also uneducated as well as not thought out because yes i have worked with Spec Ops air crews down in Panama and they do provide some of the same missions in the air that we perform on the water. Check out www.swcc.navy.mil for some history and entry stuff (not very current though). Once again my apology for the snap defence comments.

Its good to see that people in this community take things to heart. We have built our community with alot of blood, sweat, and tears and I can see where people would take offense to a comment given by an outsider. However, as true silent professionals we must remain in check and answer those questions with respect and honor. To many times in the past answers, rebuttles, or threads have caused more heart ache than good. Dont take this as a blast on you at all, I to have been guilty of spouting off when someone pushed the wrong keys. I just think that we need to get our community recognized in the right way.
