pararescue? What Is the real deal?

What does pararescue really do??? I know there their to pick up the downed pilots and stuff but what else do they do? I'm looking at RECON in the Marines but the CAP unit i'm in has really got me all worked up on SAR???? Please any info would help..

Pararescuemen SAVE LIVES ..period.
They will go IN where others bite and claw to get OUT of, for one reason and one reason only- so THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE.
