MEP, The pararecue is an active duty assignment only. They have some of the hardest training in the military. the test to get in is as follows;500meterswim-12:30 min 1.5 mile run 12:30 min 50pushups 2min 56 flutterkicks 2min 8 pullups no time limit, with no more than ten minutes rest between each exersise.tech school is 72 weeks long if you don't get cycled back ;very hard to do.they learn fastrope, repaling, diving open/closed circut, static line/halo/haho parachuteing, combat surgery, CQB, small unit tactics, some are sniper qualified. They are some hardcore motherf#<kers who walk quitly but carry a big stick! It is one of the smallest special forces units in the United States invatory. I beleave this is becuse most of the people that could make it go to the more widley knowen teams such as SeAL,ranger, green beret.

The unit dispatched was a Guard unit. As for the test to get in, the PAST (Physical Ability and Stamina Test) is administered to all potential Pararescue and Combat Control candidates. It is administered in the following order with the following mins:
Underwater swim: 25 Meters 1 breath (Pass/Fail) - 5 min rest
Surface swim: 1000 Meters 26 minute max time - 30 min rest
Note: The Free-style or side strokes may be used in any combination as long as the candidate does not touch the bottom of the pool or hang on the side of the pool (candidate must swim continuously for entire test)
Run: 1.5 miles 10:30 max time - 15-30 min rest
Chin ups: 8 in 1 minute - 3 min rest
Sit ups: 50 in 2 minutes - 3 min rest
Push ups: 50 in 2 minutes - 3 min rest
Flutter kicks: 50 in 2 minutes - Test complete
Officer candidates of course have to blow the mins away to get into PhaseII for selection for INDOC. Enlisted meet the mins and get the opportunity to attend. www.specialtactics.com (http://www.specialtactics.com) is an excellent source. Just wanted to be sure the right info was going out in reference to the Guard unit and the PAST.

I guess they have changed it since I took the test, 1995 IT was hard to pass than ,barely made the swim. The pilots were reserve.I think only enlisted can be PJ's; officers can be combat controllers, Thats how it was,has it changed?

The 106th was an active duty bomber unit in WW2.Today they are a reserve unit. A quarter of their unit consists of part time members and the rest are full time. There are PJ's who are part timers along with pilots. There is an article in todays New York Daily News that says the part timers in the unit put in at leat one day a week at the base.

I'm waiting for the next shoot at the local fireing range, some of the pj-cct instructors compete,If I make it I'm going to ask them more about this. As far as I know the only people that are qualified to attend their school,(ENTER TRAINING) are male active duty personal.??
Mr. Farquer go to these sites to learn more about PJ's and CCT. http://www.pararescue.com/intro/ http://www.specialtactics.com
