I read on here someplace that a standard CSAR package was 2 PJs, 2 CCT and a SF A-team in an MH-60. Maybe its just me but that sounds like a lot of guys in one helicopter, or are they just in LBE with maybe the PJ med ruck (what do they call those things, i forget)?

Umm, no I didn't. That was actually a question related to what you were talking about. If you have 16 guys in an MH-60, how do you get the flight crew inside?

No, not the MH, just regular UH-60s. I didn't know about the second aircraft which makes sense when you think about it. Are you sure you're not thinking about the HH-53? NOw those are huge.

Just fyi. The MH-60 and UH-60 are the exact same airframe. And you wouldn't normally stuff more than 8 people in it, including survivor(s)

Ok. That's what I was trying to figure out and what I was thinking.
I wasn't sure about the inside dimensions of the two aircraft. I was thinking along the lines of the Combat Talon vs a regular C-130.
Thanks for the help.

Now it makes sense. I must have missed something in that post. I agree that in that situation 8 would about do it for occupants. I'm thinking the MH-60 is more intelligently designed than the PaveLow, but I know that you can only get an infantry squad inside a UH-60 with a combat load. Seems like 2 aircraft make more sense anyway.
Thanks

Boys and girls,

Once you pull out the seats, you can fit over 20 highly motivated Rangers into a UH/MH-60. Seen it; didn't want to be part of it. So, given that, do you still think you can only stick 8 guys in a bird with no seats (the common set-up for those ops)?

Razor, You didn't happen to be around for a dress rehearsal of an airfield take-down in Gadsden, alabama circa 89 did you? 23 of us in a blackhawk. That sucked. We lost a door off of our bird and it landed in a wal-mart parking lot. Now THAT was entertainment!

The most I've ever seen was 17 Rangers with assault pack/butt pack and weapon in a Blackhawk.

We did get 76 Rangers with ruck, LCE, and weapon on a MH-47 that had a 500? gallon fuel blivet in the back. I remember when we took off, the floor gave way a few inches, but it held.

normal CSAR configurations vary as to the ability to aerial refuel and the forward location of the alert aircraft.
I've been on alert with 2 ground security men and 3 STS(1CCT and 2 PJ) and as much as 5 ground security and 3 STS.
Normally MH-53s("J"or"M") carry the ground security elements and a more agile aircraft, maybe a MH-60 is the third. The agile aircraft is a luxury that we don't always have due to the long "legs" that may need to be flown and the added firepower of the 53s is always nice.
