I have read many posts on this net that have SF vs Delta vs Rangers vs SEALs vs Force Recon. I am a former FR Marine and I went through Ranger school (it sucked, no fun at all!). I have friends that had interservice transfers to SEALs, Delta, and SF, they all said the same thing, "The people in my new unit are just like my old one, very professional and intelligent." I know how other Spec Ops units work and anybody that has served with one of those units knows that they all serve their purpose effectively. Can we please stop comparing them and just give a thumbs up to all of our brothers in all Spec Ops and those who will be in those units in the future?

The best part is that it comes from a Marine.

For comparison, which countries will have units like the 75th Ranger Regiment? What about the Russian Raydoviki? The Razvedchiki (scouts) are more like LRRP.

I actually worked with some South korean "Special Forces" and they were more in line with our rangers than Special Forces.

No I worked at a place called CP TANGO where any wars in the pacific would be fought out of. It was fun and since it was a Joint Operations facility I had the pleasure of meeting people from all the services and from most of the countries in the area.

I did have two friends that were part of K though. SSGT Ito and SSGT Rushing. However, Rushing is now in Levanworth after cutting some guys eye out with his spyderco while we were at the east-west club up on hooker hill.

In South Africa Ranger-type missions in the past have been split between the Special Forces (formerly Recces) and 44 Parachute Brigade, depending on the type of operation. There were however some fairly unique type of operations in the various wars in southern Africa, such as the Selous Scouts-style " flying columns " , consisting of anything from 10 to 40 heavily-armed vehicles, some carrying troops, which would penetrate far into enemy territory, usually to attack base camps. Does anyone know of similar ops in other countries?

Ok this is kind of a stupid question, and I think I know the answer but what is harder Ranger school, or Marine boot camp?????.....the reason I'm asking is because they are both about the same length, I think boot camp is a little longer, and because I was watching this show on the Discovery channel called MARINE CORP. BOOT CAMP, and they were saying that it is extremely diificult, but it didn't really look that tough, and I just wanted to know what is the difference between the Marine boot camp, and Ranger school?????THANKS!

Well if you wanna look at it statistially I would have to say Ranger school by far. Only 1 out of ten recruits for the Marine Corps dont make it and the fail rate for Ranger school is about 65%. And remember that to atend ranger school you must pass a series of test such as running, push ups pull ups sit ups etc (Not sure about exact #s in what times). Hope this helps .... then again i might be wrong

That is a tough question. In Marine Boot you're taking a civilian(ugh!) and turning him into a Marine. In Ranger School you're taking an Airborne Soldier and "perfecting" him. Which is harder? With some of the kids today the Marine DI has a real challenge ahead of him.

Here is the deal... Marine Boot camp is hard for bootcamp. It is 13 weeks of shit compared to other services bootcamps. As a whole Marine bootcamp is the hardest OVERALL. Physcialy, the Army, at least for those poor bastards at Ft Benning by the Church... Intellegence, Navy. If you have ever been on a Boat I mean Ship the basic Yoeman can tell you where everything on the ship is and belive me the are a lot of compartments. Cake walk, Air force. civi's in uniform. Except for PJ's CCt's

Ranger School is a school not bootcamp. The Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers, and MARINES who go to this school are already operators. Ranger school is not there for you to learn how to operate but how do you operate as a leader. NO other school or course that I went to in the Militery offers this kind of leadership command.( I did not attened a SF Quailfication school, but did attend some SF run schools.) There is no rank structure. An "E" what ever rank... can and WILL be in charge of any with the rank of a 0-4 to E-1.
You are put to your physcial limits.
The Seals have hell week where they only eat and sleep for a few min a night for 1 week... Ranger School 3 months of that with objectives and harassment too...
In my opinon Ranger School is way Harder than Marine bootcamp...Any of the fine people I graduated Ranger school with would have been great Marines in my book.

Enough about this Marine Bootcamp to Ranger
RANGER!!!hands down. But don't forget the Corps has many Schools that make bootcamp look like fun S/S, ARC or BRC (what ever it is called now), Combat dive school to name a few... each is hard in it's own way.. But all around Ranger.

Well put, RAT. Overall the other services could learn alot from the Marines approach to recruit training; making it as much a transformation process as a training process. The Crucible is another Marine innovation that the Army has struggled to emulate. The basic course of rifle fire is excellent as well. But for old fashioned, put your d**k in the dirt, see what you're made of training, Ranger school is hard to beat. Not that the course is in any way near perfect.

Maniac,

Your comments about Ranger School point your lack of knowlege of the subject. First off being airborne qualified is not a requirement to attend the Ranger course. Secondly Ranger School is a leadership course ( based on small unit tactics) not a course to "perfect the aiirborne soldier".

Strider's question of which is tougher
Marine Boot or Ranger, a no brainer (in my opinion). If Marine boot camp was as physically/mentally demanding as Ranger School the Marines would be looking for a more than a "Few Good Men". The traffic jams created by the buses (and hearses) taking the dropouts back to mom would be like nothing San Diego or Parris Island have ever seen.

Marine Corps Boot Camp was at the time the hardest thing I had ever done. I had no real military experience so everything I did was new and tough. I though the same after RIP, ARC, SCUBA School and of course Ranger School. As far as being physically the toughest, Ranger School wins hands down. I’d go through Boot Camp again and smoke through it. Don’t even ask me to go through Ranger School again, I’ll tell you to “F” Off!

E19, you need to give America’s youth a little more credit.

1 meal a day and 2 hours a sleep a night. Try going for 2 day's with out food and no sleep then get back with us. You soon will find out why it is hard.

E19...well thanks for the airborne info. When I said perfecting the Soldier basically I mean taking a good Soldier and making him better. I have never heard anyone claim they were a worse Soldier after Ranger training. As for leadership...I have known good and bad leaders (with and without the Ranger tab). While a school like this can teach some skills and tools, you can't send a non-leader to a course(no-matter how challenging) and turn him into a leader.

There has to be more than lack of food and sleep, because thats what recon duty is about and most(kinda..) people can make that.
My guess is that its that combined with serious physical and mental challenges.

Don´t know, never been to ranger school(duh..).

BTW: Being without food and sleep for two days sounds like my school days http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/smile.gif

The old MACV Recondo School was the the toughest considering the fact that the final weeks exercise was conducted in enemy controlled territory. OPFOR played for keeps.

I have never heard of an interservice transfer from one spec ops unit to anotjher. In fact I believe it is total BS. SEALs can't transfer to SF and vice versa. If you were SF you would still have to complete BUD/S and SQT to becaome a SEAL. If you were a SEAL you would have to complete SF "Q" course and subsequent training to be SF. DELTA guys don't transfer to DEVGRU or the other way round. Air Force Spec Ops don't just transfer to SEAL Teams or any other branch's SPEC OPS units.

Go post an intro as per the instructions when you registered, then Check in with Frog or Cass via PM to get yourself vetted. If you are going to claim SEAL around here we make sure you are who you say you are.

As for your post, things have changed a lot since you were in.
