Hello, please forgive my ignorance as I have never served in the US Navy.
I am prior service, 3 years Army Infantry. Upon browsing, the SBT looks like a unique job. I have researched and can't find an answer to my question.
On one of the links that was posted on here, it states
"Possess 36 months obligated service as of class graduation."

Does this mean that I have to have 3 years (after _____ training)in the Navy before I can apply?

Thanks for your time

Robert, former Army grunt.

Robert,
That section states that after completing training you must have serve that many months on active duty. It just means you cant do SWCC a few months before EAOS and smile at graduation knowing you are out in two weeks.
I have a buddy who runs BUDS SWCC selections. How serious are you?

Thank you for clearing it up frogstyle.
It sounded like I had to serve in another job for 36 months before I could apply.

How serious am I?
Well, I just started looking into the Navy recently. I don't know much about it at this point to be honest, I was in a totally different world as far as military service goes. I just wanted to be sure that I was even eligible.
Time to go do some research!

Thanks again,
Robert

Hope I cleared that up for you.
You will NOt need to serve in the regular Navy before attending SWCC.
Good luck dude...

Prior to SWCC training you will have to sign a page 13 that states you will obliserve for 2 years apon completion of the course. Lots of guys re-enlist on graduation day for the re-enlistment bonus. And you do need to be either active duty or reserve navy to go through SWCC. Any questions you can call our SWCC recruiter at (619) 437-5009 his name is BM1 Edwards.

Thank you boatguy.
I've done more research (I have to much spare time in civilian life) and I'm going to go through with it. Seems like a very unique job, and the guys are motivated from what I hear.

Another question.
Once I re-enlist for the Navy, will I go to a sort of "welcome to the navy this is what we are" school? Or will I go straight into SWCC?

Legdude, I thought you were going SF through the NG route? What changed your mind?

Just curious.

Well the more reading I did, the more it appealed to me and seemed like a pretty damn hard (probably under-estimating) challenge at the same time.

I've never been good at convincing people to do things. The desire to be a part of something great is there, butt my persuasive powers are non-existent.
So I started asking myself: Even if all went well and I made it (no easy task), how in the hell could I convince some "G", who doesn't know me from atom, to listen to me and heed my advice?
Since I'm second guessing myself, I probably wouldn't be an asset to an A team.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'm just trying to be honest with myself.

You'll go from BOOT to an "A" school (if you qualify for one) and you can do it one of two ways, 1 enlist at the Recruiter under the SPECWAR challenge for SWCC or 2 take the test during BOOT. If you qualify you'll go to SWCC after all the BOOT and sevrice school stuff. Like I said call the # I gave you and they can answer all your questions.

"I've never been good at convincing people to do things. The desire to be a part of something great is there, butt my persuasive powers are non-existent."

If that is your reason for not going SF you might wanna re-think SWCC. I'm not gunna compare SWCC training to the Q course or the jobs after the courses but the mind set is still the same.

I was just curious, as I have no qualifications to judge your decision making process.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though, Legdude. I appreciate it!

the mind set is still the same

Could you elaborate? I'm not quite following you.
I could be wrong because I've never done it, butt from what I've gathered the jobs seem to entail totally different things.

ie-an A team deploys to ______ to link up with G's, gain their trust, and teach them soldiering skills and/or offer humanitarian assistance.

SBT's seem to be in a totally different world.

SWCC does the same type of stuff, its called FID (Foriegn Internal Defence). Wasn't saying the jobs were the same just the take charge and run mind set.

SBT supports NSW. They are transportation for a mission profile set by NSW planners. Infil/exfil and on station support.

Ok, I understand now. Thank you gentlemen.

I do believe the commitment for SWCC is now 36 months post schoolhouse, as post BUD/S is now 50 months.

The majority of focus for SWCC is getting people places, but the job is not that limiting, there are other taskings such as the FID mentioned.

I checked with the SWCC Recruiter, he said its 2 years minimum or 3 years minimum if your reenlisting for an SRB.
