Sorry guys, this isn't really SpecOps related, but I have looked everywhere for the answer and this may be the best place. What is the difference in th US Army between a Non-Commissioned Officer and a Warrent Officer. Are Warrent officers able join SpecOps missions. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

Warrants are highly trained specialists in their particular MOS. Officers are generalists. Warrants typical come from the enlisted ranks. You will ususally hear of Warrants leading or as XOs to SF Alpha Teams when integrated in the Spec Ops arena.

There are probably a few fellas on this board (ie Tracy and Kolt) who should respond in kind to give you a better description and breakdown of the difference and employment.

So I defer to my elders...

Thanks, that gets the basic definition out of the way. Here is another question. How does on become a warrent officer; does he take a course, or is he appointed (something like a field promotion) And is their any criteria they must meet (i.e. certain grade). What is the Warrent Officers status among enlisted men, NCO's, and Officers. Sorry about the pile of questions, but Warrent officers are something almost Universally overlooked when an overview of ranks is given. Thanks
