Can someone explain the process of RIP to me. I tried talking to my recruiter but he seemed more interested in telling me stories of when he was in and his hallucinations. With RIP you go through Airborne school then go to a battalion to train before going for Ranger school, right? If that is the case how long do you stay with the Ranger Batt.??
Thanks
Joe
about 8-12 months, the time depends on YOU... how smart and strong you are. That is to say, you won't be sent before you are ready.

RIP stands for the Ranger Indoctrination Program (or Rest In Peace). When I went through (1988) it was 3 weeks long and basically it is a screening process for soldiers regardless of rank who are not Ranger qualified (Tabbed) who want to become a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment. It's a lot of PT, jumping, humping, O-course and classroom time. It seemed like it was more PT and humping than anything else. In a nutshell it is a three week gut check that will test your endurance physically and mentally and it could very well be the worst three weeks of your life up till that point but the reward is well worth it. One piece of advice, don't think that the hard part is over after RIP. It's just a taste of what you will be in for on a daily basis when you get to a battalion. Be prepared for a lot of mind games and make up your own mind that you will die before you will quit and you will probably make it.
