Hey guys this might sound like a stupid question but what should I put into my ruck when I'm on a road march?...sand, gravel, or something else?...I was thinking of putting a 35pound plate in the ruck!Any suggestions? Thanks!

As little as possible. Just kidding predator. What is the purpose of your roadmarch? Conditioning? I don't think I would use a just a 35lb plate. You can basically use whatever you want that will add up to the numbers you want on the scale, but, the load should be distributed as evenly as possible I would think. It's hard to distribute the weight of a steel or iron plate. Personally if i have something very heavy I find it more comfortable towards the top of the ruck with the weight on my shoulders than on my lower back. But,this is just my opinion and what works best for me.

i havent read the ranger handbook, but ive been conditioning the last 5wks w/a saturday hike. i place lots of old clothes in my pack then on top place two 25lb plates.. plus 2qts of water & a little food. i am out of shape bad & the 1st week it took me a little over 2 hrs to go about 4.5 to 5 miles. it was very steep terrain, some off trail. the very next week i did about 6 miles in just under 2 hrs. last week i did about 7.5 miles (the whole loop) in 2hrs & 10 min only resting 1 time (i carried my water). next week im going to move away from so much steep & do the pikes peak bar trail.. its 14 miles 1 way but the steeps are short & on nicely kept trails.

Predator,
I use 2 sandbags filled with dirt loaded ontop of some towels and other crap...
It keeps the weight evenly distributed as Sharky mentioned. It is better for you to get used to the bulk also.

buy a Camelbak bladder and mouthpiece ( just the bladder and mouthpiece ), stick in in your pack and you won't have to stop
downside to using weight plates when rucking, it's a lot easier to injure yourself if you fall ( check a hardware store and you should be able to find a 50lb bag of children's play sand for less than $5 )

Fill it with Eveready Energizers. They are more expensive but will keep you going & going & going!

Ok thanks alot for the suggestions! Is it alright that I ruck march for about 15 miles but it's not on hills or anything it is just on flat land around a 2.25 mile park, I just keep going around it until I get to 15 miles!Because I live in NYC and there is really no good plce to ruck march over here?Any suggestions? Thanks!

level ground is as good as any to condition on, unless its up hill which is better, downhill is more fun...but whatever now that you are confused...
Just use what you have, to prep for RGT use a few different land types for the best result.
And drink drink drink....if you have no camel back then take two canteens of water and drink drink drink drink. Nothing will hurt you more than not drinking enough water.
