I need a check on a guy claiming to be a SEAL. His name is Roger Lacross. Thanks for your help.

He is not a SEAL. The phonies are coming out of hte woodwork.

Hmm . . . I find it VERY VERY ODD that the US NAVY gave me that name. Does anyone else find that odd?

Regardless of what "the navy" (how do you get *names* from "the navy"?) gave you, the guy is still not a SEAL.

The Navy Recruiter gave me the name as someone who I might want to talk to. Maybe it was a personal contact of his. Also, I meant EX-SEAL.

Hey Fred,

I'm just curious. How "spelling specific" is your check method. Travis spelled it Lacross but I can think of a number of ways that name could be butchered, both verbally and in writing.

It really doesn't surprise me that some guy was able to fool a recruiter. You'd be amazed at how little the regular Navy understands the SEALs and what they do. Some regular Navy guys tell me stories they've heard about the SEALs and when I talk to some real team guys and ask them about them they laugh or shake their head and say, "Where the hell do these people come up with this stuff?"

Of course, my own guess is that they heard some bullshit story from a phony. Yet another reason why phonies need to be silenced. The spread of disinformation.

By the way, one of my personal favorites was that one SEAL test is that they have to swim out into the ocean with nothing but their shorts on and a knife and not come back until they kill a shark.

That's bogus! Actually they wear a wetsuit, mask and fins. A knife may not be carried as they must bring the shark back alive!

TA - regular Navy Recruiter's are not reliable sources of information regarding Naval Special Warfare.
PIM guy - The names I have are exact names of BUD/S grads. I check the names I'm given and if I can find a reasonable facsimile I offer it up as a possibility. As far as this particular request, I could find nothing even close.

Fred,

Thanks for the info on how you check these guys. I was just trying to offer that before people go around exposing fake SEALs they should make sure the name is correct. I just think it's a dicey situation for non-SEALs to go around telling guys who claim to be SEALs that they're not what they say they are. Especially if they've given you the wrong name! And, I gotta say, it's pretty damn pathetic that Navy recruiters would give out names without knowing who they are. Geez, talk about sleezy salesmen!
