Does anyone know a website about this "mine" or any information? e.g. how is it emplaced etc.

Hmm, Not familiar with this particular PDM, however you may be able to find info on it at DLynn's site @ http://www.pacificcoast.net/~dlynn/ ... pretty good all around info, its worth a browse. Hope that helps, Happy camping.

It is a modified ADAM submunition. It deployes trip wires after 30 seconds to 2 minutes. And a liquid explosive settles to the bottom of the munition. When someone steps on these wires the small liquid charge explode propelling a small grenade 2-3 meters in the air where it detonates sending 600 1.5 grain fragments out. I cannot remember the ECR, but 10 m keeps sticking in my head.

For FASCAM http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/fascam.htm

For ADAM http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/adam.htm

For PDM http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/pdm.htm

For M16 ("bouncing betty")and the M14 ("toe popper") http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/apm.htm

0802:

I also recall an ECR of 10m and I think the EKR was 3m (?).

I do know it's better than a toe-popper; several of us wanted to kiss to genius that modified the munition for grunts.

Anyone have a picture of this thing?

Is this like the "Bouncin' Betties" they talked about in The General's Daughter?

I know its just a movie, but Im curious.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and to note, it has been a while since I've seen The General's Daughter, but I don't recall Bouncing Betty's being brought up ...?

The only movie I recall using the term off the bat was Saving Pvt. Ryan.

As I said, correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Snow;

Will post a drawing of the M86 on SOCCHAT as a stand alone pic.

general specs on it are 16 oz in weight, when armed throws seven monofilament lines 6 meters long. Contact with the line causes an initial explosion that causes the mine to "jump" app 1 meter in the air where it detonated the main charge. They beat the heck outta the mummy wrapped frags and TNT blocks =80 We use them to discourage the "let's get the rotten sniper"types and dog teams(more effective than giving the doggie a narc high). The ECR/EKR is similar to the M26 grenade (10/3m) definately out of the toe-popper class =80

Take care...Jim

Just checked at SOCCHAT it's down for uploading right now will post drawing when it's up again

No need to post gear_guru has the link showing the same drawings of the "ground" version. Thanks GG

JY:
No need, just click on the link about FASCAM, the pictures of AP FASACM, there is a ADAM in the lower left corner, those look like the PDM.

The movie is so damn good I just decided to watch it all after I came home from one of the local TV Station's baseball game ... and I'm just completed scene 16 which is the last scene of the movie, I apologize RKW, the reason I didn't pick up on it is the fact that it wasn't the last scene.

The last scene is 16, "A Good Soldier," the scene you were referring to was 15, "Minefield."

Good eye, hope it's good enough to stay away from any REAL bouncing betty's :-)

[Edit], To answer your initial question RKW, no the M16 and M-86 are not alike in the final say, the M16 is an AP (Anti-Personnel) Mine and the M-86 is a PDM (Pursuit Deterrent Munition). If you click on the links that 0802 provided, that should pretty much give you the answer in more detail.

JY,
How long were you a Tech before you went SF?

RKW,
where do you go to school in DM? My family is from right outside of the city.

JY, whoops, looks like I should read a little more closely next time. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/smile.gif

jw, I had a friend that moved out to Adair a few years ago. We stop by on road trips, nice place.
