Anybody been to the HK Tactical Medic course? Anybody know of a good refresher course for old 18Ds?

I went to H&K's TacMed class last June. They've now come out with a follow-up course, their "advanced" TacMed course, which I might be going to this June. I'm sure you've checked out their website, www.tacticalmedicine.com .
It was a fairly decent course. Good instructors and facilities. I did find however that for the most part the course was a little too "basic" for me, as about 50% of the class had no prior tactical experience. The tactics portions were a good refresher, but nothing earth shattering was presented. Like wise with the medical material presented. Good review of the basics of tactical medicine. The medical instructors were all excellent, and are active Physicians.
Overall, I would recommend the course. There were 3 guys from 5th group in my class. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dude. Do you know of any others that are more medically inclined. I've been out of the game for 10 years and want back in.

I have gone to three refresher courses since 18D. They were primarily for renewing your paramedic license, very little combat medicine. I believe the navy is moving away from the paramedic qual requirement. I'm not sure about other services.
I know of a few other Combat medic courses if your interested.

Sneaky-
Not sure of the present status of the CONTOMS program, but that's a great class.
The first class I took when I first got into tactical medicine a few years ago was put on by a group called Tactical Element out of Florida. I would recommend them highly, as they seemed to focus more on the medical aspect than all the other courses that I have been to. Check them out at www.tacticalelement.cc.
Is your NREMT-P still current? Also, you may want to check out www.TEMS.org if you haven't already. They maintain a database of upcoming training courses.
Hope this helps.

Looking in to putting on an EMT and possibly an EMT-P refresher course in a few months...what part of the world are you in?
Will be civillian in nature-drop me a PM and if the geography works I will drop you more info when I have the program up and running...
My suggestion is Insights Training. They are based out of the Seattle area but also hold training courses around the States.

They have a great Tactical First Aid but they also train professional EMS/LE departments as well. All you need is a First Responder rating and you can also go as a civilian.
Check out John Holschens credentials, in fact you may be already aware of him as he was SF med instructor, as well as Close Combat instrustor.

Skipper
