trying to track down some guys I was acquainted with in Coronado, for two reasons...EOD package advice...and trying to get a hold of an old friend that I hear has moved to HI. (Penelope)
BM1 or most likely a BMC now, BMC Oliveras (Oli) worked in OPS at TEU 1 and/ or Chief Kurt Butler. I believe Kurt is at Indian Head and Oli is in Oz on a PEP Billet...anyone have any contact infor they could pass drop me a line My Email (keysat@vq2.rota.navy.mil) or pass mine to them.
GMC T. Gabbert here at the MU8 Det Rota was gonna help me with getting my package in, but damn these guys are busy alot, I guess especially since the recent events. My broken wrist put me out of training for a bit. I am aiming to have my Package in by September (2 year at cmd point). WEll my watch is just about over...time to get the the grind here in the wonderful world of Naval Aviation

Kurt, Olli and Trey....now there is a fun combo of fellas.
Kurt is at MU6 in Charelston. Works in OPs and is a senior chief now.
Last I heard Olli was going to NAVSCOLEOD after hi stint in OZ.
Good luck.

BMF,
Thanks for the update. Yea that is a combo of folks. I went to quite a few of their parties at 'Snake Ranch' in San Diego. The days of drinking shots off the Ice Luge(sp).
Thanks again,

from what i have read on these boards you are a USMC EOd guy eh? and...a former Instructor at NAVSCOLEOD..right?
Sooo... I have a bit of a question to ask of you,,
I am in a predicament. My current Command VQ-2 does not respect nor care that I want to go EOD. (Once your aviation you are staying!!!) My C.O.C. is very unsupportive of the fact that this is what I want to do. When I was an E-3 thru E-4 I tried to go while in my last command. My CREO group was 1..so my detailer would not release me. Now as an E-5 I am Creo 3 and already spoke with my detailer, who said he would release me if someone from BUPERS said that the communtiy needed me. I was down from training for a broken wrist for a long while, but am now just tolerating the minute pains I still have and have started up again. My question is:
How in the world do you get all the screening done with no command support. They would prob approve my chit, but I would not hold it past them to send me with a nasty transfer eval...as they have done for many other people. That is just an Eval to another command might i add...
I love the Navy and could not see myself staying 20 years + at my present job. I can see my future in Aviation...making E7 and sitting behind a desk...making E8 and sitting behind a desk....Making E9 and sitting behind a desk. I have seen and been around EOD guys E4 -E9 - W3 and not only do they not sit behind a desk but they love their jobs. When you see a 'Gunner' helping a guy into his blast suit that is comraderie. I know that you will never see a 'superior' help out a fellow tech with jack shit in the Aviation Community. EOD is what I want to do because I can see what I am doing for Uncle Sam, and lifelong friends is what is about. It is not about personal gain...it is about personal growth...through challenges, and a desire to do your best. IMO
You can only change a freaking black box so many times until you realize a monkey could do it. I invested 5 years so far with the USN telling me I can't do this or that. As I have gaines rank..i have learned that I have been fed a pile a shit. I am ready to make changes...All i am doing now is asking generic advice from a stranger...that i somehow trust....on what to do. Because in...my Command...they are too damn shady...
Any advice would be great.

BTW...if you have a good contact infor for MU6 or NAVSCOLEOD to get a hold of Olli or Kurt that would be great...the MU6 website is AFU, and the NAVSCOLEOD website has no contact info. well...for instructors that is.
I am in the Nav. Thats how I know your boys Kurt and Oli.
My advice.... If you want something bad enough charge forward. Don't worry about your evals. EOD advances much better than the fleet so if you make it through, and prove to be squared away, advancement will take care of itself.
How to be an EOD student in 5 easy steps....
1. Grab the MILPERSMAN.
2. Make a list of everything you will need to put your package together
3. Check off your list one by one.
4. Pass the PT test
5. mail and fax your package to our detalier.
Putting an EOD package together really is not that difficult. The hardest things are getting a chit through, finding EOD techs to screen you, and setting up all the medical crap.
Trust me, there are far more difficult evolutions awaiting you at EOD school.
Good luck-
BMF
