I was wondering if the 75th Ranger Regiment was ever a division or always a Regiment. If was a division, then the websites have some serious deficiencies in them, or I am retarded and have not seen where this website said it was a division. Also, did 75th Rangers ever deploy to Vietnam. I thought that Rangers in Vietnam were LRRP units formed from whatever unit they were in. Thanks in advance for any answers.

The US Army Center for Military History site has stuff on the lineage of most units.

Im sure the Rangers on here would be best off to answer this, but the 75th Regiment was the redesignation of the 475th Infantry which was the successor to the 5307th Provisional Unit known as Merrils Marauders. If Im wrong, please correct me.

There is currently a 75th Division in the reserves down here in Houston. No relations to the 75th Ranger Regt. though.

The 75th Ranger Regiment's lineage include the Merrill's Marauders (5307th Composite Regiment) and Darby's Rangers and the other WWII Ranger battalions, and the Korean War Ranger companies. The 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional) (known as the Merrill's Marauders) was consolidated with the 475th Infantry Regiment on August 10, 1944. The 475th Infantry was redesignated the 75th Infantry in 1954.

Thanks for the replies. I asked because this buddy of mine has some neo-nazi asshole telling him he was in the 75th Ranger Division in Vietnam and in 5th SF. And get this, the neo-nazi is telling him this on a website for teenagers. And that 3/4s of the way proved to me he was a liar, now that I know for sure that the 75th Reg. was never the 75th Div. that fixes the other 1/4.
