The way things are going right now, I believe Ill be an Lt. when I go active duty in the army. I wish to choose Special Forces as my MOS. Provided I do make it, can I still go to Ranger training and get the tab on my shoulder? If not, what would you guys suggest? Thanks for your time
Yeah, you can still go to Ranger School. One piece of advice for a cherry LT such as yourself: Don't speak at all, anywhere, unless an NCO gives you permission first.

1. The 18 series (Special Forces) career management field is not currently an option for officers in pay grades O-1 and O-2 in the active component.
2. Strongly suggest you branch infantry (in which case you'll be REQUIRED to attend Ranger School).
3. Usually officers are assessed (and in some cases, selected) after they complete the advanced course are in pay grade O-3. This may change in future.
4. Good luck.

Its not uncommon for an O to hit SFAS TDY Enroute on the way to the Advanced (excuse me, ICCC or ACCC) Course as an O-2. At least that was the normal pipeline back in '96. At one time, Bragg boys could do SFAS and the Q, then go to the Advanced Course after as an 18 series, but they stopped that during my Advanced Course. The PTB (Powers That Be) felt the planning instruction one receives in the ICCC helps the O training process in the Q.
