I read a post way down at the bottom and people were talking bout the A-schools most Seals choose before they even went to BUD/S. And there was a lot of mention about GM,BM,intel and a few others...but what about MP(military Police) or is it SP? I don't know what the navy calls there police. but I was wondering since I can't seem to find any info on it if its a good job to pick for an A-school? and if it would help teach anything good to know if your going into BUD/S? Or are the ones I mentioned above better?

There isn't a law-enforcement type of A school in the navy, you must be in for some time before pursuing this I believe. A schools for SEALs simply provide a rate in which you can take tests to advance in rank. The only rate with full applicability in the Teams is corpsman (medic). I can't think of one rate that will help you in BUD/S, the navy doesn't provide training like basic infantry or something that would be useful. The best advice I can give is to pursue corpsman if you are interested in becoming a medic, otherwise find out from someone in the Teams already which A school rates have the best outlooks for advancement in the future (some of the best have been BM, GM, HT).

I have a friend who was a Storekeeper (SK) in Team 8. His job was making sure his platoon had all the necessary supplies and equipment for their deployments. He also did some work on the entire Team level, I think he got sailor of the quarter for Team 8 at one point for saving them a fair amount of money.

Well I know in the AF you can be a MP as a job its called special security force or something like that...In the navy they are called SP's or Shore Patrol and I believe you get MAA (master at arms) for that but I'm not sure if that counts as a rate or not...

Shore Patrol isn't a rating; it's a duty assigned to officers and petty officers when ships pull into ports other than home port. They make sure "Joe" isn't frequenting off limits establishments or otherwise making a nuisance of himself. There are also permanent SP units in the bigger Navy towns. They act as an interface between the town cops and the Nav. Fred is correct about the MA rating. When I retired a few years back, one had to be an E-5. There were rumors of reducing it to E-4, but I don't know if that ever panned out.
