Hello Everybody,
My name is Dan, and I am a 16 year old high school student. This is my first post, so I figured that I would introduce myself to everyone. I have been a student in AFJROTC for 3 years, holding the rank of Cadet 1st Lt. I visit these boards often, and I am impressed with the way that everyone handles the different questions that get posted here. It seems like most everyone has a good sense of humor, as well as an excellent knowledge of U.S. Special Operations Units. As I said before, I am a high school student, and I am not in the Army, or any other branch of the military. However, I plan to join the Army directly after high school. I am hoping to get an 11x contract, with the Airborne/Ranger option when I sign up. Let me just say I have NOTHING but the utmost respect for EVERYONE in the military, whether they are an Airborne Ranger, a Food Service Specialist, Navy SEAL, or Intel Specialist. They are all vital to the U.S. Military. I have wanted to be in the military since I was 7 years old, and I've wanted to be a Ranger since I was 10. I have a family history in the military, with relatives that are veterans of all 5 services. I would also like to clear a few things up right now as well. I am NOT a kid who thinks that the Army is nothing but excitement, blowing things up and killing people. I will NOT pretend to have ANY knowledge of what it's like to be in combat, seeing as how the closest thing I have ever come to being shot at is the time I stared down a large angry man at the mall... But that's a different story. I am not a typical 16 year old kid, I.E. I have never drank, never smoked, never done any drugs, and my whole life does not revolve around what I'm doing Friday night. I realize the sacrifices that others who came before me have made to make this country what it is, the greatest country on earth. Also, I realize the sacrifices others have made to help other country's get back on their feet after a conflict. I am not an ill-tempered person, but I have been known to speak my mind to those who think that the war in Vietnam was unjust, or that this country is not worth fighting for, or any other ignorant Anti-American comment. By the time that conversation is over, those people are aware that they are dead wrong. I have a good amount of knowledge about the military, especially Special Operations. Certainly not as much as most people that post on these boards, but still, a good amount of knowledge. I would truly appreciate any advice anyone would like to give me. Thank you for your comments, and thank you all for helping to keep this country great.
