Have a question for anyone who might know....I have a contract in the mix for the 75th currently in a Reserve Drill Sgt. Unit....Have been told that I'll be going to Airborne enroute to 75th and that I'll stay at the 75th for a year before going to RANGER school....Does that seem right?!?.....Just wondering.....was told that the 75th likes to train up the Bat. Boys before they go to RANGER school so they are more prepared for it.....Thatnks for any help on this matter.........

That is true. It seems that for once, someone got good information from the recruiter.

Now, you are coming in as a prior service NCO, right? If that is the case, you will probably go to Ranger School almost immediately upon getting to your Ranger BN. If you get demoted to Spc4, then you will probably have to wait a few months before going to Ranger School.

The problem you're going to have is in being a team leader or squad leader with no experience in the Rangers. From my experience with imports, most don't work out and they end up leaving in a year or so. However, some end up doing a good job and staying. I'm not trying to get you down, I'm just trying to give you a heads up as to any potential trouble spots.

I'm curious, on two notes.

(1) Why would you get demoted for going from Reserve/Guard to Active Duty (with no break in service?)

(2) Most NCOs who volunteer for Ranger duty don't manage to stick it out? I'd figure the transition for a NCO who has never been in Batt would be tough, but you say 'most don't work out' which implies (to me) that it's more then just the fact that they're moving from a laid-back non-Ranger unit to command a bunch of hardcore superstuds in a BN.. what dd you find the reason for most of those people leaving is?

Thanks, Andy

i agree with ted except that now you will go to RIP/ROP after jump school then batt. but my friend and i went to 2nd batt together and because he was an nco he went to RIP/ROP(ranger orienteering program for tabed nco and officers or former batt boys) preranger then ranger school. and this was because he was an nco and the acting csm at the time didnt want an nco without the tab. again ted is right it will be better in the long run if you have your tab as a joe because you learn from the best and you learn the right way.

If you are an NCO, you will go to Airborne, then Ranger, then ROP.

1) What reserve DS unit are you with?
2) Are you going to loose your stripes going to the Batt.?

I'm currently with the 1/274th (Railspliters)..........was told that I'll keep my stripes....but that is yet to be seen need to have it in the contract....might get knocked dwon to an E-4.......

If you go active as an E-4, your original presumption is indeed correct.
